Trey Anastasio Busted! | Not Guilty Plea Entered

I realize this is probably old news to many by now, but there’s been a few updates to the Trey Anastasio arrested post we did detailing his pain-pill induced DWI charge in upstate New York.
When I first read the following, I nearly jumped out of my chair…
According to WNYT News in Albany, a quantity of heroin was also found in Anastasio’s car, and the artist told police he was smoking hashish and taking pills prior to his arrest. The District Attorney’s office refused to comment on that aspect of the case.
Heroin? Jesus H.
Supposedly that part of the case is up for debate, as this is something that only WNYT ran with and not other sources surrounding the case.
Phish principal Trey Anastasio made a surprise court appearance yesterday (Jan. 3) in Whitehall, N.Y., pleading not guilty to a drug possession charge that a prosecutor said could be bumped up to a felony.
Will the jury throw the book at Trey? Should Trey be held accountable for actually becoming a rock star? Should Trey learn how to pick up the phone to call his friends for a ride home?

People are harsh. Yeah, driving drunk is f*cked up, and Trey deserves to do time, lose his license, and have either do time or answer to a parole officer. But wishing he’d OD in prison? That’s evil.
I knew Trey way back when, and he was always a really great guy: good-natured, kind, and generous. He obviously has troubles that need to be addressed. Unlike some others, i wish him the best. Anyone who went to 185 of his shows must have enjoyed his music, so why the bad will?
Didnt get busted with heroin, eh? Hm, why did he PLEAD GUILTY to those charges in court today?

hopefully one time after he takes some drugs he’ll remember the great times he had playing with phish and come back, at least thats what im hoping for, and i dont understand what the hell the problem is, there a millions of people doing drugs all the time and u dont bitch about them leave the guy alone, f*** its not easy to kick that s***, i wouldnt know personally but you gotta be on his side not against him

wow. you all are very “fresh” phishees. you should look at the at picture and feel absolute “f***-that could’ve been me.” if you don’t feel that (especially to the sloth comment guy) then you have no right to listen to Phish. they let themselves in your living room…without you asking. and you know you love it. figure it out on your own negative nancies. you have no game to bring to the table Posers.
The rise of so many great jambands? Are you serious?? The f***ing scene is dead, and has been for quite some time. All the “jam bands” that have names are chump musicians who rehearse every one of their “jams.” Until people stop placing bands up against bands and styles with styles, we can forget about having a good scene again. People tried to downplay Phish with constant comparison to the Grateful Dead. Of course, they were all at Coventry. Music was stolen from the people and sold back to them at the itunes store.
Trey got busted, so what, he’s just unlucky. Phish still was a great band disbanded before it was too late (observant people understand this). Who knows if we’ll ever see them again, but I’m not going to wait in line until that day comes.
Trey doesn’t nee dour help and support. he has friends and family for that. And jsut because he got busted with dope doesn’t ean he has a problem. I did my fair share of heroin in my tour days and walked away from it without a problem. Its art of his lifestyle. And I think it may be somewhat helpful. The last few Trey shows I have seen have been surprisingly not s***ty. Unlike most of his post-phish-solo stuff. And heroin has a hell of a alot to do with WSP. Did you go to a show in the late 90’s? if you had, you would not be asking baout the connection.
So, i think it sucks trey geot busted, but is anyone really shocked to learn he’s on drugs? F***, ,I’d be surprised to learn he was NOT on drugs.
And Phish will not be reuniting this year, or next or the year after that. Why a I so confident? Well, I work for red light management, TREYS MANAGEMENT GROUP, and he has an exclusivity contract that pretty much guarantees the soonest we’ll see phish back together is 2010.
So quit bitching, keep jamming, and get over yourselves.
Phish was great, but without their demise, we would not have seen the rise of so many great jam bands.

exactly AOC, We all have our own vices and personal problems. Trey just happened to get arrested and publicly busted for his. Be thankful that it’s not your face posted on that mug shot for all the fuct up things you have probably done in your lives. Live and learn folks, it just takes some of us more hardships and mishaps to learn what we need to…. and move on. And that’s exactly what all you hatin’ folks need to do, move on!
Would you people listen to all your negativity? Let’s be mature here, someone who at ONE point in time that gave MOST of us some feeling of joy in our lives, needs help. Who the hell twisted your arm and made you attend 185 shows of a band you apparently don’t give a s*** about? I rarely missed a Phish show between 1995 and 2000 (after having already toured with The Dead) and don’t regret a thing. I actually feel fortunate to have “wasted” this time.

Trey is still and will always be the man. I don’t know about you guys though but it breaks my heart to see him like this. We don’t need him going down the same path as Jerry. But only Trey can save Trey. He’s got to learn to love himself.

I used to shoot heroin, and I love trey, he is still the man. Heroin and opiates are really tough to kick. I take suboxone now as a detox drug and maintance to keep me off the junk. Show some compassion. its f***ing hard to stay away from the ultimate rush. I hope he gets better and continues to write amazing mind altering music. Phish in 2008
