Phish Friday | Fluffer-Nutter

filed under: , | tags: ,

Man, this week flew by...

It's already Phish Friday around here on Live Music Blog and we're offering up a small stretch of Phish that I'm certain most fans have already heard before. At least, most fans that would call themselves a collector by any means...

Back in December, 1997, Phish was playing one of the tours of their life. Their Bittersweet Motel rockumentary shares a few glimpses into this storied tour -- Trey actually gets quoted as saying something like "No one's paying attention to us right now, and we're having one of our best tours yet..." -- and one of the shows on the tour was epic by all accounts: December 7, 1997, Ervin J. Nutter Center, Dayton, OH.

This sequence actually opens the show. Ephing Fantastic!

Tube Reprise jam is where it's at!

Yeah, I thought about making that part of this but I'm trying to go in sequence at the very least. Having the set opener and the closer is a great idea, though -- some sets are full segues in and of themselves. :)

The Nutter Center show is easily one of my favorite Phish shows I saw. This show is flawless IMO.

Love the Phish Fridays Justin. Just got back from getting married in Europe so this is the first I have heard of yours and Andy's fab idea. Really any show from the epic tour of Fall 97 has at least a few gems in it. Dayton was a gem start to finish... Looking forward to many more enjoyable Fridays at work! Thanks for sharing. And if you are looking for suggestions. I just listened to a great Gin that opened up the Riverport Amp show in MO in 1998. It's a little over 20 mins but it is one fine jam.

This is the stretch that came into my head when you started Phish Fridays (kudos on resisting the urge to use an extraneous 'ph' btw)... the Tube > Reprise Jam is classic, but the opening stretch is some of the best Phish I've heard. JLC is unrelenting.

Looking forward to the next installment..

We're always taking suggestions for new Phish Fridays -- Andy's got the next pick...

I've got tons of stuff that I've LOVED over the years that I want to get posted. It's funny, too -- I can't wait to see what shows we'll start posting once we're through our own personal favorites.

This is an old source I got a B&P on years ago...

Honestly, the night before, 12/6/97, and the Nutty Center are the PEAK of 1997. The entire year leading up to this tour is widely considered the climax of PHISH as we knew it.

Any other ideas of HOT, multi-nite stands? How about Deer Creek '96, and UIC '98. There was nothing like settling into a venue for a multinite run and looking back on it in retrospect. Oh yeah, forgot to mention Miami '03. Any suggestions?
