The Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band

filed under:

Rev. Payton's Big Damn Band

"Dunno if you've heard this band ever. They are so damn awesome. There is a guy w/ an acoustic guitar, Rev. Peyton, his wife on the washboard, and his brother on drums. And thats it. So awesome, check em out, give em a blog. They are worthy cause I saw them play @ Summerfest in Milwaukee before a crowd full of Flogging Molly fans. All of these rocking Vans Warped Tour rockin and rollers were standing up and dancing their asses off by the show's midpoint."

Actually, I have seen Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band -- it was at Summer Camp 2005. For anyone else that has seen these guys, what did you think? Are they the real deal or is it all shtick?

frickin real deal man, they come to canopy club all the time and while their sound is pretty similar to all their songs, if you like what you hear you'll enjoy it all. and they put on a fun show.

definitely the real deal... remember them at the campground stage at summercamp 2005? badass, not for everyone, but kane makes a good point, you will know if they are for you after one song...

I saw them as well at Summercamp 05. They were entertaining, and it would be cool if I happened on them again, but, it's kinda one sound and that's it. Not too dynamic. That is what you get with a line-up like that. Don't get me wrong. They were really cool to see and I hope all the best for them.

I happened upon them in a little pub in a small town in missouri. Did these guys come strait from the bayou or what. I loved them. I do a little small time promoting so I hope to get them where I come from.

I agree with Ben on the dynamism of the sound but they more than make up for it with their energy! They have a great stage presence and had a great story about the Jerry Springer show. I saw them play at a small Pub in Manchester, Ct last night. They were brought in to play as the feature act at an open mic and everybody loved them. Great live show!

They totally killed at the Portland Blues Festival, making most other bands look and sound like sleepwalkers. I love their sound and pray I get to see them again.

They are the real deal for sure. Their sound have changes a little bit in the last year. Much more dynamic but still kicks ass.

Saw em last night. Blew the headliners off the stage. Well not exactly, but made the headliners step it up.

Saw them last night. They opened for Flogging Molly and really got the crowd going. Good band and nice people on top of that. I talked guitars with the Rev'und after the show. I meant to ask about the washboard, but with them trying to close HOB, I ran out of time for Q&A. Looking forward to seeing them again shouold they come around.

Last year at the Joshua Tree roots fest they came on early in the morning, talk about getting people out of their tents. I also checked them out a few weeks back at Winston’s in Ocean Beach with Hot Buttered Rum and the Rev and crew were amazing. The only thing that sucks is I can’t find a show where they’re the headliner, time for the big dam bad to step it up; never the less wouldn’t mind seeing them in Vegas next month

I have never seen them live. I heard they are playing a free show in Winter Park, Colorado on Saturday April 12, 2008 from 2-6 PM. I am going to see them. No doubt about it. I will enjoy it.
