Happy holidays, dudes and dudettes! Hope you got everything you wished for and downed copious amounts of egg nog. Now, on to more important stuff than family gatherings and gift exchanges….live music! Naturally, there are ton of great shows going on this week in NYC as we lead up to New Year’s Eve, including some multi-night holiday runs, some late-night throwdowns, and plenty of NYE parties that don’t involve watching a ball drop in 10-degree weather. Moog and Paste Magazine have partnered on a new video series called Live At Moog to highlight Moog Music’s array of old-school synths and effects pedals. The five-week video series will feature bands/artists — like Medeski, Martin & Wood, , and — doing live studio sessions from the Moog factory in Asheville, NC. The series is also sponsored by the local Asheville folks over at Music Allies. Check out the upcoming schedule of sessions:

Yo La Tengo – Episode 1 – December 2009 (available today)
– Episode 2 – December 2009
Medeski, Martin & Wood – Episode 3 – December 2009
Matisyahu – Episode 4 – December 2009
Jojo Hermann – Episode 5 – January 2010
Erin McKeown & Jill Sobule – Episode 6 – January 2010
– Episode 7 – January 2010
– Episode 8 – January 2010

Apparently, this is just the first videos series with another to follow next Spring.

Pitchfork Fest 2009 logo

The lineup for the Pitchfork Music Festival got a few additions the other day, with , Fucked Up, M83, Black Lips, and a few others added to the already amazing festival roster. I really hope I’ll be able to attend this festival, with the Friday night “Write the Night” series seriously exciting the hell out of me. For those that haven’t heard about this already, check it:

A reminder: On Friday, July 17, we’ll launch the “Write the Night: Set Lists by Request” series, in which four bands will all play fan-selected set lists. Here’s how it works: You, the audience, vote on which songs all four bands– , the Jesus Lizard, , and – will play. When you buy your ticket, you’ll get a confirmation email. That confirmation email will include a link to a page where you can vote on which songs from each band you want to hear. The bands will tailor their set lists accordingly. (Also worth mentioning: This will be the Jesus Lizard’s first American show in a decade.) Voting ends June 12.

Podcast #052 – When Indie Bands Kick Out the Jams

Podcasts

Show notes: Here at LMB we’re obviously open to a band stretching a song beyond its normal studio length or otherwise changing it for the live setting…that’s, in fact, one of the main reasons people dig live music. (Okay, duh, you can send my regards to Captain Obvious) But while a band such as Phish [...]
