I caught this late yesterday but just not getting around to posting the news update from the 23rd Annual Warren Haynes Christmas Jam. The lineup hit the wires yesterday with Phil & Friends, Gov’t Mule, Los Lobos and Bela Fleck all sitting at the top with plenty more yet to be announced. It’s a doozy for fans of the Haynes and Friends style uber jam that lasts hours and hours into the Asheville night. >>>

Taylor Gould is back with his second post here on LIVE MUSIC BLOG.com and he got some amazing shots from the Tedeschi Trucks Band show last night in Atlanta. Look for plenty more awesomeness from him and our Atlanta scene in the very near future! –Justin
Being a Derek Trucks fanatic since around 2003, when I had just started to pick up the bottleneck style myself, I’ve seen and heard a lot of Derek’s music and probably hold him to a higher standard than most of his fans. Of course, he’s never had a problem meeting these “standards”, as he’s simply one of the best slide guitarists out there today (and although many are afraid to say it…one of the best ever). Whether he’s performing with The Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes, or other collaborations I’ve seen in other settings, it always amazes me how Derek manages to express his unique and powerful talent in a perfectly appropriate way. It’s a rare trait that virtuoso musicians (and especially guitarists) don’t often possess.
Since Derek’s band has welcomed Susan Tedeschi (wife of Derek) to the stage many times before, their decision to join forces and pen some original music in early 2010 was no surprise. The results, however, have surpassed even the most optimistic expectations of their combined fan base. The 11-piece unit (featuring members from both Derek and Susan’s touring bands) released the roots and soul-heavy Revelator
earlier this summer to much critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone proclaiming that “He [Trucks] and Tedeschi, a perfect vocal foil, now front the best Dixie-funk family band since Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett.” READ MORE

The Royal Family ball celebrated the release of Soulive’s new album Rubber Soulive and featured an eclectic selection of musical legends playing alongside the Royal Family, including Talib Kweli, Warren Haynes and John Scofield. The show started around 6:30 with Nigel Hall playing a set to warm up the growing crowd. Terminal 5 was a former nightclub space and has the capacity of a small arena; the three levels of the building slowly began to fill up with eager fans. READ MORE
It’s early (for me). Therefor my constantly repeated disclaimer of “this is going to have spelling and grammatical errors, and may be tough to follow at times” is totally in effect. READ MORE
We’ve been a little slow on the site lately thanks to my new full-time job out here in the Bay, but that isn’t stopping us from welcoming friends to the site to start dropping some contributions in their own way. First up is our long-time friend, Ross McKillop, a recent New York City transplant from Vancouver.
Hi, my name is Ross, and I’m a live music addict.
So this is my first post on the Live Music Blog. I’d like to thank Justin for giving me the platform to bather on about the concerts I go to, the music I listen to, and the (generally poor) pictures I take…
I suppose we should get this out of the way up front. I’m not a professional music writer/reviewer. Never will be. All of my “reviews”, comments and thoughts come as a fan, and always will. If I seem unprofessional at times, that’s because I am.
Lets get started. READ MORE

The Dead rolled into New Jersey’s Meadowlands on Tuesday night for the first of two nights in the swamp. Although I’ve seen Phil and Friends a bunch of times (a great band), and seen two Ratdog shows (which was two too many), this was to be my first time seeing The Dead, the 2009 edition. READ MORE
