In case you missed it, the lineup for this year’s Wakarusa Music Festival was finalized late last week. Topping the bill is a solid eclectic mix with Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers and Primus all set to headline the festival, with LMB favorites Umphrey’s Mcgee, Girl Talk, Ghostland Observatory, Big Gigantic, EOTO, Orgone, Blitzen Trapper and tons more joining them to round out the festival’s ninth year in operation.
The festival returns to the Ozarks on May 31-June 3, 2012 and tickets are still on sale. READ MORE

It looks like one of our favorite seasons of the year — “Festival Lineup Announcement Season” — is officially upon us. Wakarusa has come out of the gate nice and early with their initial 2012 lineup, including Pretty Lights, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, G. Love & Special Sauce, and an acoustic trio featuring Bob Weir, Chris Robinson, and Jackie Greene. This year’s Wakarusa festival is set for May 31 – June 3 at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas. Save the date: Wakarusa 2012 has been set for May 31st-June 3rd. As it has for many years recently, the festival will return to Mulberry Mountain in the Ozarks for a weekend of major festival attitude in a smaller festival package.
Really loved this video that Brandon Sloan put together on this year’s Wakarusa Music Festival, an often overshadowed festival event in the currently crowded space occupied by the Bonnaroos and Coachellas of the world. Given that I’m in a car on my way up to High Sierra and I brought my cameras to get as much coverage as possible, I figured I’d finally drop this as inspiration.
Great work, Brandon.

2/15/11 update: The Official Bonnaroo 2011 Lineup has been announced.
Summer Festival wanderlust is in full force this week as Wakarusa, Mountain Jam and an expected Jazz Fest lineup are released this week…
The powers-that-be just kicked the Bonnaspeculation season into overdrive by offering up their first in a series of clues that will lead up to the great big initial announcement in about a month’s time. Many of these cloos were misleading last year, and it seemed like the festival was just pulling our legs on a few. But after all, Bonnaroo has always been a great marketing force (even in the first year, when they relied almost strictly on word-of-mouth), always adding something new to keep people like myself intrigued year-in-and-year-out The first clue immediately brings to mind the great David Bowie, what are your thoughts?:
Clue #1 (courtesy of @Bonnaroo): A trip to space thwarted by a speckled lad’s demise. A watershed moment otherwise.
Not that Bonnaroo requires something like a big anniversary to pull out all the stops, but if the transformative Fifth Anniversary was any indication (2006–My personal favorite lineup, featuring Radiohead, Beck, My Morning Jacket, G.R.A.B., and Oysterhead), this year AC Entertainment and Superfly will be pulling out all the stops. So here is my completely speculatory list of artists who might be appearing on the farm in Manchester from June 9-12 (one can wish, wonder, and wander towards the Good Road): READ MORE

The start of the 2011 festival season is already well underway for our friends that are rocking Jam Cruise, but the true festival season really won’t start picking up until we see Coachella in April and Jazz Fest soon after. But the promoters for Wakarusa got out ahead of those announcements and released their 2011 lineup earlier today…
Wakarusa always commands the most attention the week before Bonnaroo announces their lineups, the only leg-up they really ever have for continuing on in their own tradition moving forward (considering the always-competitive space). But this year I think the promoters of the festival really outdid themselves and booked a solid lineup. They’ve tapped My Morning Jacket, Ben Harper & Relentless7, Thievery Corporation and STS9 to headline the festival and they’ll be supported by a solid crew of mid-size touring bands keeping the lineup as eclectic as ever. A few others that stand out for me are Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Lotus, the New Deal, Budos Band, Trombone Shorty and tons more really…
Expect a lot of overlap between this festival lineup and many of the others you’ll see in the next month or so. This gives me hope that we could see a My Morning Jacket headlining slot at High Sierra ’11…
Read on for the full lineup.
The party in the Ozarks began yesterday at Wakarusa 2010. We saw that law enforcement efforts had been stepped up around the festival as in year’s past — which likely prompted the move down South to their now-current festival location — but all in all I’m sure the festival will go down just fine. They’ve been doing it long enough by now.
For more info, you can read the CoS Festival Survival Guide. Our friend The Joker at Coventry Music is also attending the festival. We’ll be trying to follow along as the music rages on…
