U2 and Jay-Z to share the bill on Australian and New Zealand dates [CoS]
The string of five dates run from November 25th to December 18th and includes stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
U2 just announced yesterday that all dates on their 2010 summer tour were rescheduled to 2011, so keep your tickets if you still want to see this massive behemoth of a touring band in 2011. All tickets that were purchased for the shows this year will be honored next year, which perhaps creates a logistical mess, but obviously worth it if you’re a mega fan and don’t want to risk returning tickets for a chance at better seats when they go back on sale again. When the news broke this week that U2 frontman Bono had to undergo emergency surgery to repair an injury he sustained while rehearsing for the band’s upcoming tour, the chances that more dates would be postponed was clearly on everyone’s mind. Sadly this has been confirmed; the entire 360° North American Tour that U2 planned to start in Salt Lake City has been postponed until 2011. They’ve also had to cancel their first ever performance at Glastonbury.
U2 just announced that Bono had to undergo emergency back surgery as the result of an injury resulting from prepping for the tour planned to start on June 3rd in Salt Lake City, so the start of the tour has already been postponed. From U2.com…
Following Bono’s unexpected back surgery earlier today, Live Nation confirmed that the U2 U2360° tour launch previously scheduled for June 3rd in Salt Lake City has been postponed.
U2 fans with tickets to the June 3rd event are encouraged to retain tickets until updated show information can be provided.
Additional tour information will be forthcoming.
U2 will headline the 2010 Glastonbury Festival.
It makes sense that the biggest music festival in the world gets the biggest rock band in the world, but it’s still huge news. I guess the band will have to go without its behemoth of a stage this one time.
I half-avoided this story just because I don’t want to perpetuate some notion that U2 didn’t wish this upon themselves, but it is quite interesting to read how extravagant the current U2 live tour is. They still haven’t made money and they kinda pissed off David Byrne, so I can’t see this ending well for the band.
Don’t forget about their YouTube webcast from the Rose Bowl on Sunday night.
The YouTube blog just announced that U2 and YouTube will partner to offer a live webcast of the band’s concert at the Rose Bowl in LA this Sunday, October 25 at 8:30 p.m. (PT). YouTube recently launched its foray into the concert webcast space when it offered up a live stream from the Outside Lands Festival, but this is definitely a bigger step in terms of the size of the artist and the potential audience and online traffic.
I’m loving the fact that I’m getting back into the swing of things here on LMB. We’ve got some cool stuff coming and the as-promised return to form of the old blog that we really loved writing, so thanks to all the folks that have been stopping by and commenting on the site. Good to have you all back!
I’ve still got some posts I want to write this weekend and some stuff I wanted to get posted, but there’s enough to do a full Heady Links roundup also. Check some of this stuff out today while you zone during your last hour or so at work:
Finally, the Disco Biscuits begin a tour in California tonight with a show here in San Francisco at the Fillmore. I was working to try and get a hold of a photo pass but it hasn’t come to fruition yet. Either way I hope to have some highlights to share from the show tomorrow a.m. See you then, party people.
