In case you missed it, the lineup for this year’s Wakarusa Music Festival was finalized late last week. Topping the bill is a solid eclectic mix with Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers and Primus all set to headline the festival, with LMB favorites Umphrey’s Mcgee, Girl Talk, Ghostland Observatory, Big Gigantic, EOTO, Orgone, Blitzen Trapper and tons more joining them to round out the festival’s ninth year in operation.
The festival returns to the Ozarks on May 31-June 3, 2012 and tickets are still on sale. READ MORE

The NYC concert calendar chills out a bit this week. But there’s still plenty of action, including a jam-packed weekend of shows that’s going to set up some tough decisions. Here’s the week’s highlight reel… READ MORE
Sorry for the absence of this here column last week; I got hit with an acute case of tonsillitis which definitely killed my Monday pretty badly. Felt like I was swallowing razorblades….but the good news is that it got me to the doctor to get some killer horse-pills to clear my junk up, so I ended up catching a few good live shows last week when all was said and done. More on that to come, but for now let’s dive into the cool music coming through San Francisco this week that you all should be paying attention to. READ MORE

The Original Meters – 6:15 p.m. – Le Flambeau WWOZ Stage
The announcement that the Meters would be re-forming for an extra special set at Bonnaroo alongside Dr. John (where they performed his classic album Desitively Bonnaroo) got me hoping that the quintessential funk quartet would have enough fun to get together for a few shows and possibly be in the mix at Jazz Fest. It turns out we wouldn’t have to wait ’til May to see these guys return to their hometown. The Meters performance on Sunday is definitely one of the biggest pieces of live music news to hit the Big Easy music scene all year and this will mark the band’s 3rd festival appearance this year (Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and now Voodoo) in City Park in late-October. The seminal NOLA funk band haven’t appeared in New Orleans since headlining Jazz Fest in back-to-back years in 2005-06, so a big applause to Voodoo for making this happen. Just hoping the WWOZ Stage area is big enough to handle what should be a very large Sunday crowd.
The Festy Experience was this past weekend and brought bands together like The Infamous Stringdusters, Railroad Earth, Davis Grisman, Brett Dennen and more to Nelson County, VA outside of Charlottesville. We had a few friends on hand covering the festival and we’ve got a few shots from Matt Manzano’s amazing set to share to start off some of the roundup.
