Thom Yorke
New Atoms for Peace coming soon? YES PLZ!
There’s huge news coming out of the Radiohead camp this morning following a radio show sit-in that Thom Yorke did with Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio. You can hear the whole show here:
Thom Yorke returns as Gilles’s special studio guest this week, and he brings with him an exclusive Jamie xx remix of Radiohead as well as the new remix album due for release next month!
The two go back to back for the whole show, and touch on everything from Berliners Modeselektor and Anstam’s dark beats, through to Footwork from DJ Slugo and some classic Bristol swag from Massive Attack. But not before dipping into classic US Jazz from Duke Ellington and Bossa Nova from Segio Garcia.
Radiohead fans and music lovers alike, this show is not to be missed!
The big reveal came during the interview segments where Yorke mentions that Radiohead will indeed be touring next year “on and off” and that he’s working on an Atoms for Peace album following the band’s epic 2010 tour (all via Green Plastic Radiohead). I saw the band at the Fox Theater in Oakland when they rolled through ahead of their Coachella appearance, and it was an absolute triumph of amazing music and I’m hella down with anything these guys are going to put together for a proper studio project.
And regarding the tour, it makes sense now especially given that the Coachella rumor mill is already saying that Radiohead and No Doubt are confirmed for the two-weekend festival in 2012. There’s really no reason to think it would not come true given the band’s affinity for the festivals last time they toured in support of In Rainbows. Good news for us in the Bay Area; Coachella week is always epic with the amount of music we get flowing in and out of the area. We’ll definitely be following this news closely.
Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke has announced today that he’ll take his previously unnamed supergroup on a short Spring tour in April, including a stop at Coachella. The band, which includes Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, is now called Atoms For Peace.

The blogs are alive today with audio and video from the Thom Yorke show last night in Los Angeles. You Ain’t No Picasso has the MP3′s and video up. The Coventry crew is going to be there tonight and will likely have spirited commentary on their Twitter account. And I’ve yet to dig into any of the new material yet. Happy Monday, ya’ll!

Thom Yorke just announced that he’ll be playing two shows at the Orpheum Theatre in LA this weekend, Oct. 4th and 5th, which is amazing. But the announcement of who his backing band is will probably be the thing that everybody’s talking about today, because he’s got Flea on bass, Mauro Refosco on percussion, Joey Waronker on drums, and producer Nigel Godrich all helping him out with the shows. Lucky Dragons get the opening slot.
