Last night (as expected), came to and covered “Breathe” from Dark Side of the Moon. The band has actually covered this a few times before, and I’d definitely say this version nails it.

Post image for Tour Dates: Broken Bells Announce First Tour

Broken Bells, that new band fronted by James Mercer of and of everything cool released in new music over the past few years, just announced their first tour following up their highly successful introduction down at SXSW this year. I really only caught this video from Spinner but it was enough for me. I immediately went out and got their eponymous release and it’s been on steady rotation ever since. I’d highly recommend it.

Watch this video which features the first track from the album, and read on for the dates. READ MORE

Remember Radiohead’s “From the Basement” videos?

It turns out those weren’t the only videos being captured by Nigel Godrich and crew. I’m not sure exactly when this new site launched, but FromtheBasement.tv is now a virtual treasure trove of amazing live (in studio) performances by a veritable who’s who of amazing contemporary bands and artists.

There’s simply so much good video on this site and it’s all high-quality. Here are just a few choice selections:

Andrew Bird | Beck | Cold War Kids | The Fleet Foxes | Gnarls Barkley | Jamie Lidell | My Morning Jacket | The Raconteurs | Radiohead | Sonic Youth | The Shins | White Denim

Thanks to Bob Lefsetz for the tip!

if you aren’t already, start listening to the shins. this four piece, from albuquerque, nm, has sweet acoustic guitars, unique vocals, and heartfelt steel pedal guitar riffs. check out the video of half of the shins playing in their basement. it is a rare treat to see a group perform as well live, as they do on studio releases. have catch them in long beach, ca, at all tomorrow’s parties in november.
