The final additions and tweaks have been made to the JamCruise schedule, which means we’re getting into the home stretch. Jamuary is right around the corner!
One of the best things about the cruise is the interaction with the musicians on the boat, and getting to chill with them in close quarters. Whether it’s the opportunity to sing your favorite karaoke song with members of Umphrey’s McGee backing you, or playing Bingo with Jon Fishman or Trombone Shorty calling out the numbers, the schedulers always do a great job of coming up with fun activities for the cruisers and getting the musicians involved. Randy over at Funk It! does some amazing videography work and this might be his best yet – a 16-minute video that manages to blow through 26 different performances from the 2011 Bear Creek Music Festival. Apparently Mr. Funk It managed to capture over 14 hours of footage from the weekend so expect a lot more in the coming months from the Live Oak fest. Continue on below for the tracklisting and video.

The NYC concert calendar chills out a bit this week. But there’s still plenty of action, including a jam-packed weekend of shows that’s going to set up some tough decisions. Here’s the week’s highlight reel… READ MORE
The New Mastersounds continue to grow their following here in New Orleans and last night’s show at Tipitina’s with Fox Street All-Stars marked the first non-Halloween/non-Jazz Fest trip to the Crescent City for the quartet, a chance to play for the ‘real people of New Orleans,’ as the band said during one of their many between-song banters.
I am very excited to be making my first trek down to Live Oak Florida in less than 3 weeks for the Bear Creek Music Festival, and the anticipation has only increased now that the schedule dropped last week. It’s my first time ever flying to a festival, so it’ll be a definite change from all those times I’ve loaded up the car with my camping gear, but other than that I could not be more excited. The New Mastersounds announced a set of fall/winter tour dates earlier this week, which is yet another run following up the release of their new album, Breaks from the Border. They also tacked on their New Year’s Eve plans without much of a mention, but it looks like the band is joining the Tedeschi Trucks Band here in San Francisco for a grand ‘ol party at the Warfield. Mark it, folks…it’s officially time to start planning your NYE.
Read on for the band’s dates including stops in Hawaii, Austin, New Orleans and beyond… READ MORE

Gelston Castle Estate, Mohawk, NY
While we’ve obviously been covering the hell out of the Phish Summer Tour, we’re also hella excited about this weekend’s annual moe.down Festival in Mohawk, NY. Our friend Nick Irving is going to be on-site shooting photos for the site (as best he can; we were too late to get a photo pass for the pit) and we’ll hope to have some coverage up after the fact. This lineup is eclectic as hell and the announcement is something I love to see year after year. While it’s definitely stacked with heavy hitters that you’d know and love already — moe., Bob Weir with Levon Helm Band, TV on the Radio, etc. — I’d take a look at the following artists on the lineup and make sure they get your full attention as well. The New Mastersounds have definitely been a band I’ve been paying more attention to in the past few year, and it’s a good time to be a fan of this band considering they’re about to release their new album, Breaks from the Border, due out to the public a week from this Tuesday on August 9. I was front row for their recent show here in SF at Brick and Mortar celebrating the album’s release, and the band tore through a set of funky tunes with plenty of new cuts that got me excited to hear the new tunes from the studio.
This new album is being recorded at Sonic Ranch and the band has been releasing videos showing some documentary style footage of the recording process and a bit more about the environment they immersed themselves in to get this funkiness down on tape. The third in the series was just posted the other day; check out 1, 2 & 3 after the jump. Good stuff. >>>
