Post image for New Trey Anastasio album with members of The National, Mates of States

Woah.

Since winding up his fall tour, the Phish guitarist has been making a daily commute from his home to Bridgeport, Connecticut’s Tarquin Studios, recording with his band and members of the National and for the last month. Peter Katis, who owns the suburban studio and has produced a string of indie rock albums there (Interpol’s Turn on the Bright Lights and Antics, ’s Boxer, Mates of State’s Rearrange Us), is co-producing the album with Anastasio.

I, for one, welcome any and all inspiration to strike Trey these days and seeing the band’s forays into covering Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel and TV on the Radio all point to this as a very logical progression. Let’s see what he does with it.

Our friends at Consequence of Sound must have gotten the lineup to the upcoming Treasure Island Music Festival a few days early, and we’re blown away to see a seriously solid lineup for this year’s edition of the annual indie rock and electronic music festival here in the Bay Area. I love that is coming back for a headlining slot, and the emotional and anthemic sets we’ll see delivered from Belle & Sebastian and the National will give me a chance to dive deeper into those catalogs ahead of the festival. It helps that and !!! (Chk Chk Chk) will be there, too.

Much like the case in past editions, Treasure Island 2010 will split its two days (Oct. 16-17) between alternative and electronic outfits, with Belle & Sebastian, , LCD Soundsystem, and Deadmau5 sitting at the top of the bill.

Other acts set to appear include Broken Social Scene, She & Him, Kruder & Dorfmeister (live), Miike Snow, !!!, Superchunk, Surfer Blood, Die Antwoord, Little Dragon, Four Tet, Rogue Wave, Ra Ra Riot, Monotonix, Phantogram, The Sea & Cake, Phosphorescent, Holy Fuck, Jamaica, Wallpaper, Papercuts, Maus Haus, and The Mumlers.

Sick, right? Who are you most excited to see? Or wait, this is the same weekend as the Phish in Vegas rumors that are floating around, so maybe I need to hold off on getting too excited myself. I’ll be trekking the Vegas if the opportunity presents itself.

Austin City Limits is gearing up for a huge television season as well as one of their best music festival lineups ever. They recently announced that Jimmy Cliff, Spoon and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue would both separately be joining the ranks of the musical elite that have graced that stage, and four more heavy hitters were just announced as well…

Austin City Limits has four scheduled tapings around the dates of the Austin City Limits Music Festival:

: Wednesday, October 6th
: Thursday, October 7th
: Saturday, October 9th
: Monday, October 11th

These tapings will be held in the Austin City Limits studio (as usual), and any announcements regarding ticket availability and giveaways for the public will be posted on the ACL blog approximately one week before each taping. The sets will air as part of ACL’s 36th season on PBS, premiering this fall. Exact airdates are TBD – we’ll post details as we get them sorted out. We have a few more tapings in the works, so stay tuned for word on those as well…

Nice lineup there. I wonder who else they have planned.

I’m absolutely loving the mix on the lineup for Musicfest NW this year, yet another lineup that busted yesterday just like and Bumbershoot. The weekend of September 9th-12th will be kicking in Portland, and Panda Bear is starting everything off on Wednesday, 9/8 with a show at Crystal Ballroom.

The grounds are being prepared in Golden Gate Park for this weekend’s second incarnation of the Outside Lands Music Festival, an event that I’ll be in attendance for once again this year. I’m excited for the weekend and the good lineup, and I’m looking forward to seeing a few bands that I’ve never seen before. I’m going to run down what I think I’m going to see this weekend and why I think you should join me. If you’re going to the fest tomorrow drop me a line and maybe we can hang out. READ MORE

The lineup for the Pitchfork Music Festival got a few additions the other day, with , Fucked Up, M83, Black Lips, and a few others added to the already amazing festival roster. I really hope I’ll be able to attend this festival, with the Friday night “Write the Night” series seriously exciting the hell out of me. For those that haven’t heard about this already, check it:

A reminder: On Friday, July 17, we’ll launch the “Write the Night: Set Lists by Request” series, in which four bands will all play fan-selected set lists. Here’s how it works: You, the audience, vote on which songs all four bands– , the Jesus Lizard, , and – will play. When you buy your ticket, you’ll get a confirmation email. That confirmation email will include a link to a page where you can vote on which songs from each band you want to hear. The bands will tailor their set lists accordingly. (Also worth mentioning: This will be the Jesus Lizard’s first American show in a decade.) Voting ends June 12.

I’m really happy I stayed in a bit this weekend and took some time redesigning the site. It’s totally funny timing, too. I remember reading a little interview with Scott from Hidden Track where he mentioned that they were going to be launching a new version soon, and no sooner had I finished off the [...]
