This is another one of those week’s of live music in NYC that requires some serious skills with scheduling and logistics. There are a ton of great shows and there’s just not enough time, energy, and cash flow to take them all in. Since I’m still out of pocket, and there’s so much to choose from, I’m foregoing my normal highlight reel and just going with the entire list. Call me a slacker if you will, but given all these options, I think I’m mainly just indecisive…
Interesting shows from this week’s NYC concert calendar:
Umphrey's McGee hits NYC this week for a 4-night run @ Brooklyn Bowl
I’m out of pocket this week and man…it looks like I picked a bad week to head out of town. There are a bunch of interesting shows going on this week with plenty of options for dancing, rocking, and jammin’. Read on for my run-down…
I got back from SXSW this past weekend, but I’m still in a bit of shock and awe (and recovery) from my five days down there. I’ve been meaning to post this since Sunday, but I’ve also been battling some kind of post-SXSW plague while trying to catch up at work.
SXSW is this weird, all-encompassing music industry free-for-all that showcases the best and not-so-best of this industry I have somehow found myself engulfed in. While I came away totally exhausted and fairly overwhelmed, I also managed to run a very successful Day Party (for eMusic at the Beauty Bar), see some solid panels, eat some great BBQ and tacos, and, of course, catch a ton of killer shows. I also put my new lens to its first true test, so my review below is pretty photo-heavy with a few themes and thoughts to pull it all together. READ MORE

I’ve been loving The Dodos these days, and I’m eagerly downloading their new live album recorded in Prague called aptly, Live From Akropolis, Prague. Just head on over to http://www.dodosmusic.net/ to download the release once you hand over your email address. Not a bad exchange for 11 new live tracks mixed and mastered straight from the band… READ MORE
The Dodos played “Fables” on Late Night with David Letterman this past Friday night.

That’s not a bad way to make your network television debut, although it would have been cooler if they were bathed in confetti like the official video for the song.

The grounds are being prepared in Golden Gate Park for this weekend’s second incarnation of the Outside Lands Music Festival, an event that I’ll be in attendance for once again this year. I’m excited for the weekend and the good lineup, and I’m looking forward to seeing a few bands that I’ve never seen before. I’m going to run down what I think I’m going to see this weekend and why I think you should join me. If you’re going to the fest tomorrow drop me a line and maybe we can hang out.
