Reports are streaming out that Jack White had a little blow-up at the audience at his invite-only Dead Weather showcase late last week.
Stereogum has the video clip…
According to New York Daily News gossip columnist Frank DiGiacomo, Jack White berated the audience at the Dead Weather’s invite-only show on August 4. … He reportedly yelled, “Fuck you, you hip motherfuckers! Why don’t you rock the fuck out? Maybe I should go grab those free drinks and shove them down your throats!”
Seriously?
After the outburst, which one concertgoer tells us elicited an eye roll from [Mary-Kate] Olsen, the red-hot White stopped the show midset to insult and throw out a guy in the front row who’d been taking photos.
There’s something to this that irks me, but obviously it makes for an entertaining story on more than one level. It immediately reminded me of that Steve Kimock show a while back where he just completely went-off on his audience for chatting it up while he was getting all into his guitar jams, and ever since I’ve had a hard time respecting him as a performer. I judge too harshly, though — everyone has an off night, even Jack White. I just hate the idea of artist entitlement. This entire thing can be summed up by Jack White needing a break, a change of expectations, or a willingness to change his tune for the sake of the audience. Instead, he just screamed at them. Not my style.
Anyone there that wants to comment? @Shaun_White, I’m looking in your direction….

Here are some photos from day three at Bonnaroo 2010; thanks again to Eric Tsurumoto for donning our press pass and getting out there in the muddy heat.

NPR Music strikes wonderfully again; they just announced that they’ll be broadcasting over 40 sets from this year’s
Bonnaroo Music Festival beginning next Thursday.
NPR Music, together with three partner public radio stations, sets up camp by the four main stages at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, presenting three days of live webcasts with dozens of performances from popular musicians. From June 11-13, NPR Music, together with Member stations KUT Austin, The Current from Minnesota Public Radio and WFUV New York, team up to offer more than 40 full sets from acts taking the Festival’s Which, What, This, and That stages, including The Dave Matthews Band, The Dead Weather, Kings of Leon, Nas and Damian Marley, Phoenix, The Avett Brothers, Jimmy Cliff, The Flaming Lips (performing Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon), Norah Jones, Jay Electronica, The Gossip, Dan Deacon, LCD Soundsystem and John Prine.
If you’ve followered their coverage of SXSW in the past, you know that these webcasts (and subsequently archived sets) are top notch. This will likely be a few sets I set my watch to. We’ll post the schedule when we get it.

It must be “West Coast Music Festival Lineups” week here at LMB. The Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle just announced their lineup today for the weekend of July 23-25th, 2010. It’s absolutely stunning for the price of admission. This is seemingly worth traveling for at that rate; some three-day passes are still available for $60.
In unabashedly conspicuous celebration of 14 years of independent music and culture, the Block Party has added a THIRD Day! After 13 years of being a two day festival, community support and tremendous talent opportunities initiated the addition of a 3rd day, Sunday July 25th.
Discounted: $60 three-day passes on sale Friday May 21st.
Discounted: $23 single-day tickets available on Friday June 4th.
Advance 3 Day Passes available here: www.thestranger.com/blockparty3daypass

The battle for the live concert webcast dominance just got a bit more interesting with the announcement that YouTube was selected as the Outside Lands Music Festival webcast partner, something that they’ve never actually done before. I knew about this for a few weeks and should have announced it, but my sources are all gainfully employed YouTubers who don’t want to get fired for revealing top secret internal information.
We’re told that they’ll be broadcasting portions from Dave Matthews Band, Thievery Corporation, The Dead Weather, Silversun Pickups, and more. Read on for the full press release. READ MORE
The third major music project featuring Jack White is called The Dead Weather, and they just announced their first U.S. tour starting on July 13th in D.C. at the 9:30 Club. I’ve got money down that NPR will be webcasting that show, so I’ll be hoping on that to get a sample of what the band sounds like. I still think it’s crazy that White is being the drumkit in this band. Also in the band are as follows: fellow Raconteur Jack Lawrence, Dean Fertita from Queens Of The Stone Age, and Alison Mosshart of The Kills.
