The Sasquatch Music Festival has released their 2012 lineup, and as usual, it’s a doozy. Headliners included Beck, Bon Iver, Jack White, Pretty Lights, Tenacious D and The Shins, all amongst a virtual who’s who of the best independent artists playing today. Sasquatch takes place over Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-28, 2012) at the Gorge in George, WA. Check out their official 2012 announcement video: READ MORE
We just got hit with the first snowfall of the season here in NYC. Even though the weather’s starting to chill out, the live shows are keeping up the heat. Check out my preview of the week’s shows with some videos of my top picks, including Ween, Battles, and Steve Kimock & Friends. READ MORE
Annie Clark’s much-raved about band St. Vincent played at Tipitina’s last night in support of her expansive cinemasterpiece Strange Mercy, an excellent 3rd offering from the indie chanteuse whose fame and following continues to grow with each record (further helped by endorsements by artists like Beck). Our Julia Pretus was there to capture a few shots from the show. Were you there? If so, please tell us about the show in the comments! Continue on for the gallery after the jump.
You been paying attention Moogfest this year? We’re digging on their lineup and the daily schedule has been announced already. In addition to the top-tier lineup covered in untz and whomp, this year will feature the festival along with an expansion to a number of new venues in the Asheville proper. In addition to shows at the Asheville Civic Center Arena, Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and the Orange Peel, they’ve also added the newly renovated Asheville Music Hall (formerly Stella Blue) and the Diana Wortham Theatre, and plan to announce another outdoor venue soon.
Seeing Flying Lotus and Battles on the same day makes me beyond excited and it may mean I will finally make it out onto the shuttle buses to see this festival once and for all. I’ve heard good things but I’ve also heard the crowd and the vibe skews younger than some of the other festivals that get me psyched up, and despite last year’s LCD Soundsystem headlining slot, I’d never been too amped on who they’d booked to be the main talent on the lineup. This year’s choices of Death Cab for Cutie and Empire of the Sun won’t be enough to change that sentiment but the other talent on the lineup would be great to catch on that floating enclave in the middle of the Bay. Single-day tickets are still on sale and I’m half-debating whether or not I can make it out for the weekend festivities. I think the lineup is incredible this year and a sure-bet if you’re a music fan living in Chicago that weekend. Anything marked in bold was just added today.
