Sonic Youth

@ Pitchfork Music Festival 2011

’s live music scene continues to bang on through the heat & humidity with an interesting mix of shows this week. We’ve got some well-known, genre-crossing singer-songwriters like and …you may have heard of him. If you’re more into dreamy synth-based rock that harkens back to 80s, there’s Cut Copy at Prospect Park or ’s more intimate (and FREE) gig at Mercury Lounge. For something a little jammy, ’s doing his loop pedal thing at Southpaw and we’ve got two nights of instrumental Zeppelin madness with at Brooklyn Bowl. On the indie, proggy, experimental side, there’s Woods w/ Ducktails at the Bowery as well as the bigger indie rock darlings like and Kurt Vile at the Williamsburg Waterfront. But the sleeper show of the week (technically, next week) is a band called who’s kicking off four nights in NYC with a show at the Charleston in Brooklyn. If you dig the eclectic, experimental styles of Tortoise or Battles, you’ll want to check them out.

Austin City Limits is gearing up for a huge television season as well as one of their best music festival lineups ever. They recently announced that Jimmy Cliff, Spoon and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue would both separately be joining the ranks of the musical elite that have graced that stage, and four more heavy hitters were just announced as well…

Austin City Limits has four scheduled tapings around the dates of the Austin City Limits Music Festival:

: Wednesday, October 6th
: Thursday, October 7th
: Saturday, October 9th
: Monday, October 11th

These tapings will be held in the Austin City Limits studio (as usual), and any announcements regarding ticket availability and giveaways for the public will be posted on the ACL blog approximately one week before each taping. The sets will air as part of ACL’s 36th season on PBS, premiering this fall. Exact airdates are TBD – we’ll post details as we get them sorted out. We have a few more tapings in the works, so stay tuned for word on those as well…

Nice lineup there. I wonder who else they have planned.

Remember Radiohead’s “From the Basement” videos?

It turns out those weren’t the only videos being captured by Nigel Godrich and crew. I’m not sure exactly when this new site launched, but FromtheBasement.tv is now a virtual treasure trove of amazing live (in studio) performances by a veritable who’s who of amazing contemporary bands and artists.

There’s simply so much good video on this site and it’s all high-quality. Here are just a few choice selections:

Andrew Bird | Beck | Cold War Kids | The Fleet Foxes | Gnarls Barkley | Jamie Lidell | My Morning Jacket | The Raconteurs | Radiohead | Sonic Youth | The Shins | White Denim

Thanks to Bob Lefsetz for the tip!
