This little corner of the Internet would not be possible without the hard work and support of the people below. We’ve got an eclectic confederation of folks keeping the wheels turning at LMB NOLA and we hope you enjoy reading our memories from the year in music.
The final additions and tweaks have been made to the JamCruise schedule, which means we’re getting into the home stretch. Jamuary is right around the corner!
One of the best things about the cruise is the interaction with the musicians on the boat, and getting to chill with them in close quarters. Whether it’s the opportunity to sing your favorite karaoke song with members of Umphrey’s McGee backing you, or playing Bingo with Jon Fishman or Trombone Shorty calling out the numbers, the schedulers always do a great job of coming up with fun activities for the cruisers and getting the musicians involved. Our good friend Pete Merriman (@PeteLikesMusic) went to his first Bear Creek Music Festival and took this great set of photos from the festivities. Peep the full gallery for shots from the grounds, Garage a Trois, Marco Benevento Trio, tons of Skerik and George Porter, Jr. sit-ins, and Trey Anastasio Band and their headlining set on Saturday night at the festival. There’s a few of Nikki Glaspie and Johnny Vidacovich lending their talents all over the stages, including some great shots of when Johnny V. sat in with Medeski, Martin & Wood. READ MORE
Garage A Trois took the stage at One Eyed Jacks last night rockin’ matching gray Puma track suits, setting the tone for the full-fledged weirdness that would ensue. One of the music universe’s more intriguing collaborations, Garage a Trois meshes the musical stylings of four immensely talented musicians into something altogether unique, disruptive, and powerful. During the show, my buddy and I joked over PBRs that it would be impossible to label Garage A Trois’ sound without throwing ‘fusion’ on at the end for good measure, and a day later I’ve accepted the fact that it would be a disservice to put Garage a Trois into any specific category(ies). Blending elements of funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, punk, metal, ska, and whatever they feel like exploring on a given night, Garage a Trois’s sound is truly one of a kind.

Soulive’s inaugural three-day outdoor festival, The Royal Family Affair, kicks off this weekend up at Stratton Mountain in Vermont. They just announced the schedule for the weekend’s festivities, which includes sets by Chromeo, Big Gigantic, Soulive and plenty of their Royal Family label brethren.
If you’re looking for nice midsize festival with lots of funk and groove-oriented music to dance to, this seems like a really solid bet. Check it… READ MORE
I’m back, baby! Sorry for the silence around here as I’m still reeling from an amazing first-year Jazz Fest experience followed up by a week off at home hanging with family and staying disconnected from the internet for a while. It felt good, but I missed you sad sacks and I certainly feel like I miss these guys: Skerik and Mike Dillion. It’s a toss up between Dillon and Marco Benevento on who I saw play the most music while I was in New Orleans, and they’re all staying busy and heading back out on the road. Skerik and Dillon are joining back up as The Dead Kenny G’s to support Primus on a set of dates on the East Coast.
Straight from a three week tour with Garage A Trois, saxophonist Skerik and percussionist/vibraphonist Mike Dillon rejoin bassist Brad Houser in their other primary band, The Dead Kenny Gs, for ten dates supporting Primus in the Southeast at the end of May. The trio will also headline a handful of its own shows during the run. The Dead Kenny Gs are touring behind their critically-acclaimed new album, Operation Long Leash, out now on Royal Potato Family.
Primus has a huge set of dates announced for Europe and all throughout the States. Head over to their website for the full list and read on for the Dead Kenny G’s dates… READ MORE
High Sierra just finalized their lineup for this year’s festival.
We’re excited to announce the final batch of artists to join the 20th Annual High Sierra lineup in what is shaping up to be a celebration for the ages. Joining the bill is Jackie Greene, an authentic, bluesy troubadour and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band – the preeminent artists perpetuating authentic New Orleans Dixieland music. The Carolina Chocolate Drops infuse a contemporary spirit into their traditional Black String Band music. We’re excited to welcome back prolific and irreverent singer/songwriter Dan Bern. In addition, joining this year’s lineup will be Heavyweight Dub Champion, The Black Seeds, Skerdio (Skerik + Radioactive), Poor Man’s Whiskey, Scott Amendola and Wil Blades, Rubblebucket, The Heavy Guilt, Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, Kate Gaffney Band and a quadruple threat of artists-at-large, Josh Clark, Lebo, Skerik, and Eric McFadden.
