Marco Benevento Trio @ Carnegie Hall, 7/20/09

It’s no secret that I have a total man-crush on Marco Benevento right now. This audio clip from the performance he did with his trio at is just a huge, stark contrast versus the show I saw at the Independent when Marco played to about 30 people just solo on a piano. I’ve always wondered how he preps for shifting between those types of shows.

My favorite part of the jam above is when the crowd totally jazz-claps after ’ bass solo. Good stuff.

Our friend Josh Kuckens went to see the Marco Benevento Trio (with on bass and on drums) at The Westcott Theatre in Syracuse, NY on Thursday night, and he ended up getting some really incredible photos of the band in action. And thanks to taper AndyB and the Internet Archive, there’s a nice quality recording of the concert now in circulation.

I got a chance to see this lineup perform in Oakland during February and it was easily one of the top three concerts I’ve seen during 2009 thus far. Go see this genius if you have the chance; you won’t be disappointed.
