Sasquatch

NPR is once again digging into the 2011 festival coverage with some great options. This weekend, they’re streaming a ton of sets from the Festival out at the Gorge in Washington state. The stream is audio-only, but it’s sounding pretty damn good so far.

Here’s their broadcast schedule for the weekend: READ MORE

Wow.

The ! Music Festival is proud to announce that the event has completely sold out of all 100,000 tickets (25,000 per day over 4 days) in record time exactly one week from the lineup announcement.

I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I thought the lineup was that good. That must be my jaded vet syndrome talking, but the main factor by which I would have dragged myself up the West Coast to catch the fest would have been doing The Soft Bulletin. Seeing at the Gorge would be pretty epic, too, but really I think that this festival has just finally become that institution for a ton of folks in the Pacific Northwest and I, too, would book every Memorial Day if I lived within striking distance.

The lineup for the 10th annual Sasquatch Music Festival has just been announced. Once again the fest returns to the Gorge in Washington state for Memorial Day weekend, but this year the festival will be extended to four days, plenty of time to host the stacked half of the lineup with , , , and all commanding bold font at the top of the list. Here’s the entire list of artists scheduled to perform:

Foo Fighters, Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse, Wilco, The Flaming Lips (performing The Soft Bulletin & more), , Bright Eyes, Iron & Wine, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Bassnectar, Robyn, Flogging Molly, Death From Above 1979, Pink Martini, Cold War Kids, Old 97’s, Ratatat, Wolf Parade, Chromeo, Guided By Voices, Yeasayer, Beach House, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Local Natives, Matt & Kim, Deerhunter, Mstrkrft, Trailer Park Boys, Sleigh Bells, Major Lazer, Flying Lotus, Skrillex, Tokyo Police Club, Fitz & The Tantrums, !!!, Archers of Loaf, Against Me!, The Thermals, Best Coast, CSS, Surfer Blood, Jenny & Johnny, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Head & The Heart, Bonobo (DJ Set), City and Colour, Reggie Watts, K-Os, Gayngs, Tim Minchin, The Drums, The Radio Dept, Young the Giant, The Antlers, Sharon Van Etten, Villagers, Stornoway, Aloe Blacc, Black Mountain, Moondoggies, Noah & The Whale, Sam Roberts Band, Secret Sisters, Twin Shadow, Das Racist, Wye Oak, Tig Notaro, Wheedle’s Groove, Smith Westerns, Rival Schools, Foster the People, Alberta Cross, S. Carey, White Denim, Washed Out, Gold Panda, Dan Mangan, Axis of Awesome, The Globes, Cotton Jones, Jaill, Mad Rad, Basia Bulat, Other Lives, The Bronx, White Arrows, Pepper Rabbit, Talkdemonic, Rebecca Gates and The Consortium, The Young Evils

Not bad at all.

I’m sure there will be more artist announcements in the coming weeks as everything gets finalized; I’d also expect a host of comedy acts to get announced soon as well. For myself I’m not sure the headliners are bands I’m wild enough about to travel up the West Coast for this party, but anything at the Gorge is something I consider and I’ve heard people consistently rave about as one of the better festivals during the year.

Ouch.

Sasquatch! 2010: Day Three [Weekly Volcano]

As a reunited, aged struggled through their set to what seemed like half the number of bodies that’d packed the main stage just moments earlier for LCD Soundsystem – the prevailing vibe of the festival so far being that of good times, getting-drunk, and-raving out in The Middle of Fucking Nowhere, not checking out bands known by people born prior to 1990 – you were reminded of this. Pedals malfunctioned. Stephen Malkmus – who was either a little drunk or more aloof AND COOLER THAN FUCKING EVER – stopped songs on at least two occasions, cussing and apologizing to the crowd in the process. A rare old man standing next to me – in the sea of youth that is ! – got visibly frustrated, yelling “Come on!” the second time Malkmus halted. Most in the crowd, however, just felt sorry for . Something tells me that’s not how they planned it.

For music fans arriving at Sasquatch Music Festival yesterday as the festival began, it may have been a huge surprise to see that the owners of the venue had installed a huge black tarp behind the stage now preventing any view through the stage and into the beautiful highpoint of the Gorge in general. Part of the wonder and beauty at this venue now seems to be just a tad bit lost on whatever the reasoning behind it was…

A spokesperson for LiveNation, owners of the Gorge, said the new curtains were part of the new stage installed before this season (Saturday’s was the first show), and were installed for weather proofing.

Suddenly I’m not so worried that Phish didn’t announce any dates there this summer. Not like I wouldn’t go, but you get what I mean. What a stupid move.
