did his best to keep a San Francisco audience perfectly satisfied last night as he brought his trio into town (this time with on bass and Andy Borger on drums), but it was clear from the energy in the room that everyone had spent themselves out on a crazy Saturday night. Typical San Francisco behavior, actually… partying comes in cycles. And Marco stayed animated and definitely got people rocking after a relatively tame-ish opener in Fred Torphy (from Big Light). Back in early 2008, Marco Benevento set-up a Thursday night residency at Sullivan Hall that featured a series of killer combos and collaborations including: , Billy Martin, Bobby Previte, , DJ Olive, G. Calvin Weston, , , John Ellis, , Marc Friedman, , , and Steven Bernstein.

Shine A Light Productions captured it all on film and just recently completed a DVD of the events entitled “ (& Friends): Live In NYC: The Sullivan Hall Residency.” Here’s a little video teaser they put together for the new release:

Our friend Josh Kuckens went to see the Marco Benevento Trio (with on bass and on drums) at The Westcott Theatre in Syracuse, NY on Thursday night, and he ended up getting some really incredible photos of the band in action. And thanks to taper AndyB and the Internet Archive, there’s a nice quality recording of the concert now in circulation.

I got a chance to see this lineup perform in Oakland during February and it was easily one of the top three concerts I’ve seen during 2009 thus far. Go see this genius if you have the chance; you won’t be disappointed.

Man we were light on posting last week. I’ve been totally out of loop since moving into a new apartment, but now that I’m settled in and mostly unpacked I’ll have some more time to devote to this here website. Sorry for the lack of updates from my side. I always apologize, I know — and that really doesn’t do much, I know — but just understand that I have really been trying hard to keep up as the site is still something I very much love to do and I love that people still come hang out with us online.

Here’s a bunch of other stuff that was going on while we weren’t posting too many articles.

  • is being joined by and (!) for four dates in the Northeast in early November. That, my friends, is insane. Someone remind me to download those shows. [Hidden Track]
  • Ryan posted the latest Live Music Podcast, an set from 2005. [The Live Music Podcast]
  • covered “Paper Planes” live in Italy and it sounds really amazing. Anyone know where to find a full version? [Stereogum]
  • LL Cool J just played House of Blues in Chicago and liveDaily was there to take photos. I wonder if it was any good. [liveDaily]
  • just bought a talent agency. I thought that was the only thing they did not have power over already, the talent side of the equation. [liveDaily]

More good stuff to come, folks. I missed you guys.
