Our friend Derek McCabe was at all three nights of Furthur at Red Rocks just a week and a half ago now, and his photo galleries from the show came out incredible. Musically the band was pulling out some of the stops that the venue’s storied heritage absolutely demanded, with Chris Robinson joining the band for a few tunes on the first night of the run.

While I was in Golden Gate Park on Sunday watching Grateful Dead tribute band, Dark Star Orchestra, the boys in Furthur were laying a hurt on the fans in Denver with a three-night run at Red Rocks with a few bust-outs and a Chris Robinson sit-in on night one. Check out the setlists over at Oh Kee Pah Blog, and watch this video to see Joe Russo absolutely slay the drum breakdown in “Help on the Way.” Sickness.
Our friend Greg Maximov (drummer for The Neurovoltaic Orchestra) recently flew out to Colorado to catch the Pretty Lights show at Red Rocks and took an amazing set of photos while him and his friends bopped along with Derek Vincent Smith’s latest visual and aural assault on the famed amphitheater. I’ve been pretty inspired by Pretty Lights lately and I’ve been rocking his music ever since seeing his set at Outside Lands this year, but I’m bummed that we didn’t get the new Pretty Lights with drummer extraordinaire Adam Deitch. He adds a whole element to the sound that really matters when you’re catching it live. Let’s first see how they sounded together at Red Rocks earlier this year… READ MORE
If you’re just chilling at your computer you should absolutely be watching the iClips.net double-header re-broadcast of the Primus set from Red Rocks last month along with a re-broadcast of the Trey Anastasio live set that was recorded at The Pageant in St. Louis from this past February. Primus started an hour ago, and Trey starts at 9pm EDT. Good stuff so far.

Happy Monday, folks. I’m excitedly catching up on news today after an amazing weekend here in SF, and one of the first things I’m checking on is how the Wanderlust Festival went down in Squaw Valley here in Northern Cali. I wouldn’t normally get too amped about that festival but I saw news before the weekend that made my radar perk up. Turns out that Pretty Lights was booked for the festival and made an announcement last week stating that he’d be bringing a new drummer along for the party. That new drummer is none other than Adam Deitch, a true ripper and a drummer of immense talent and natural ability. This news effectively bummed out everyone in my crew that had yet to purchase a ticket to the Pretty Lights late-night booked after Outside Lands, a sure-fire rage fest at the Independent.
In addition to that huge announcement, the band had a pretty stellar week otherwise. They announced a sell-out crowd will be joining them on August 7th at Red Rocks Ampitheatre, and they also released their second of three EP’s planned for this year.
