Post image for LMB SF: This Week’s Concert Calendar – Oct. 24-30

Happy Monday, folks. Everyone out here in the Bay Area is recovering emotionally after the transcendent experience that was this year’s concert down in Mountain View, CA. While I couldn’t make it myself this year, most of my crew made it out for a day and reported back nothing but smiles and heartfelt appreciation for live music and what brings to the table each and every year for this special event.

As always Neil Young made a set of special appearances each day, and footage is up from the feed so you can see the sit-in he did with as well as this shot of him and doing “Pocahontas.” Look at the band reaction when Young joins them on stage… READ MORE

While we’ve obviously been covering the hell out of the Phish Summer Tour, we’re also hella excited about this weekend’s annual Festival in Mohawk, NY. Our friend Nick Irving is going to be on-site shooting photos for the site (as best he can; we were too late to get a photo pass for the pit) and we’ll hope to have some coverage up after the fact. This lineup is eclectic as hell and the announcement is something I love to see year after year. While it’s definitely stacked with heavy hitters that you’d know and love already — , Bob with Levon Helm Band, , etc. — I’d take a look at the following artists on the lineup and make sure they get your full attention as well. Post image for Jam Cruise 10 Lineup Announced!

The lineup for was announced first thing this morning here on the West Coast, and I couldn’t be happier that I’ve already taken the plunge and pre-booked a cabin for the 10th anniversary of the floating festival that everybody has been raving about for years. This will be my first year on the boat, so I’ll be seeing plenty of unbelievably great music all while sailing the seas and partying with my fellow like-minded fans. Can’t wait.

One of the bigger reveals of the lineup has been the port destinations that the cruise is choosing, and this time the festival is setting sail a full week after New Year’s Eve with a January 9th departure n Ft. Lauderdale to make stops in Labadee, Haiti and then onto Falmouth, Jamaica. The whole thing winds back down on January 14th, 2012. Umphrey’s McGee, , , , Shpongle, New Mastersounds, , and are just some of the artists I’m excited to get a crack at seeing this year, and there’s tons more talent rounding out the lineup this year.

As hedonistic as the whole vacation is, I’m actually proud that the organizers thought to bring a stop by Haiti into the equation. More about those efforts were detailed in today’s press release… READ MORE

Comments on Concert Listings:
For this week’s post I used Bandsintown.com‘s concert listings. Overall, I like BIT’s ease of tracking, slick interface, and their Facebook app. I also dig their concert cloud interface and found it useful for preparing this post. However, there were a few shows missing that I saw on other listings, like Railroad Earth. This may have been due to the artists that are automatically being tracked (or not tracked) in my account, but it could have been avoided if there was a a simplified search option allowing me to look for upcoming shows in all of NYC (note: typing “New York City” into the main search box did not work; it should).

Cornmeal @ Tipitina’s Uptown 1/12/2011 [LMB NOLA]

is an over-privileged city when it comes to live music. If good live music were rich food, we’d all be tubby. But one entree we don’t get nearly enough of here is good bluegrass. Maybe I was just spoiled after 5 1/2 years living in the Music City, where a run down to the legendary Station Inn was always merely a hop and skip away, but it took Chicago jam-grassers playing down at Tipitina’s on Wednesday night for me to realize that this was a void that needed filling in the city.
