Remember that new NYC multi-media music event Pitchfork announced a while back for February 2012? Well, it looks like that’s a no-go. READ MORE

It looks like Pitchfork is continuing to expand their festival business.
After recently rolling out the Pitchfork Music Festival’s European counterpart in Paris, they’ve just announced plans for a “full-on four-day multi-media festival” in New York City. The festival is called Forms and is scheduled for February 1-4, 2012. According to Pitchfork, “Forms celebrates and explores the interconnected and growing worlds of independent music, art, and gaming.” They’ve partnered with local promoter powerhouse Bowery Presents for booking and promotion, but have not yet announced lineup, venues, or other details. The folks at Pitchfork recently announced that they’d be adding comedy to this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival lineup.
…we’re happy to announce the first ever Pitchfork Music Festival comedy stage! It’s hosted by Les Savy Fav frontman (and Pitchfork.tv jokester) Tim Harrington and features veteran stand-up artist Eugene Mirman, “The State”/Wet Hot American Summer star Michael Showalter, “Daily Show” correspondent Wyatt Cenac, and “Saturday Night Live” writer Hannibal Buress. All the jokes go down on Friday, July 16, on the Balance Stage.
The schedule has also been posted. If you’re going to this year’s festival, please drop me a line if you’d be willing to send in updates and/or photos from the festivities.

If you’ve got the time and the money to do enough traveling, you could spend every weekend between now and September standing out in a field with thousands of other like-minded music fans. Every year, more and more festivals seem to show up on our radar, and there’s just a staggering number of multi-band extravaganzas coming up. So to help keep things straight, we’ve compiled info on a whole lot of big upcoming shows below.
Hey, I’ll admit that it’s usually not my style to laugh at people that may be going through a hard time. Life is hard, people. I mean, come on, especially if you’re touring Europe and asked to play a premier festival at 2am to a sea of adoring fans. It must have just been too much for indie band Wavves, as they had a bit of a breakdown at their set at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
At 3:00 a.m. sharp, having dodged their share of bottles and even a shoe (neither Nathan nor Ryan was hit, although Nathan likely made impact with some unlucky attendee upon forcefully returning the latter object back to the crowd), the show mercifully came to a screeching halt: Ryan ran offstage, throwing his drumsticks at Nathan. Infuriated, Nathan screamed into the mic, “Come back here, motherfucker, we’re not done yet!” Immediately, stage crew appeared, breaking down Ryan’s kit. “Fuck!” Nathan shouted, “Stop doing that!” They didn’t, so Nathan decided the show must go on. Helplessly, he strummed his guitar again, clearly intent on playing another song. But as he stepped back to the mic, he realized it had been cut. As the crowd booed, the house lights came up, and a defeated Nathan Williams threw his hands up and left, along with the few remaining attendees.

Way to blow it, guys.
The lineup for the Pitchfork Music Festival just got a bit better with the additions below:
Newly added bands as of right this moment: Art-rock exhibitionists Yeasayer, rootsy dudes Blitzen Trapper, epic Danes Mew, Vancouver fuzz buckets Japandroids, Montreal folkies Plants and Animals, wiry post-rockers Disappears, and an indie rock band made by men called Women. Check out all the acts set for the fest thus far below.
Tickets are going fast. I may need to decide to use some miles and get myself to Chicago for this. The lineup looks too good to pass up for me, especially for the price.

Tortoise recently announced a June 23rd release date for Beacons of Ancestorship, their first album in five years. I can’t wait to hear it. They’re playing some dates in May and a festival date in June, with the major highlight being their performance at Pitchfork Music Festival as part of “a new series…called “Write the Night: Set Lists by Request”. You, the audience, vote on which songs all four bands– Built to Spill, the Jesus Lizard, Yo La Tengo, and Tortoise– will play.” I really hope I can make it back to Chicago around that time to catch that.
Read on for their tour dates and the full press release about the new album.
