The fine folks at Big Ass Lens (awesome name btw) recently sent over some great footage of Pavement from New York City on Sunday night. Pavement, the cult-indie band from the 90′s, who made their mark with Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain announced in 2009 that they’d be playing some reunion gigs. Many thought these would be the only shows, but shortly after a bona-fide tour was announced and sold quickly. So quickly, that one could even say Pavement is more popular now than in 1994.
With this reunion tour now winding down, the last stop being Los Angeles’ famed Hollywood Bowl on Thursday, September 30th, what is Pavement planning to do next? Well, not much but I’ll be there and hope to catch a glimpse. No future touring plans have been announced, and no new album on the horizon. Will Pavement just ride off into the sunset after a successful return? Now that they know they can…probably. READ MORE

The Virgin Mobile Festival (now called FreeFest) just announced their lineup for this year’s free festival, with M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem and Pavement all topping the lineup.

On Saturday, September 25th, the Virgin Mobile FreeFest returns, this time with a lineup that crosses indie, hip-hop, and dance boundaries. The much controversial M.I.A., NYC alt-dance outfit LCD Soundsystem, and recently reunited indie legends Pavement will headline this year’s festivities.
The tickets for the one-day festival set for Merriweather Post Pavilion will be FREE for anyone that can quick-draw the tickets on Saturday, 7/24 at 10am EDT. TicketFly.com will be hosting the tickets. Previous ticket holders and Virgin Mobile customers get a little break and get access to the tickets first on Friday.

Ouch.
Sasquatch! 2010: Day Three [Weekly Volcano]
As a reunited, aged Pavement struggled through their set to what seemed like half the number of bodies that’d packed the main stage just moments earlier for LCD Soundsystem – the prevailing vibe of the festival so far being that of good times, getting-drunk, and-raving out in The Middle of Fucking Nowhere, not checking out bands known by people born prior to 1990 – you were reminded of this. Pedals malfunctioned. Stephen Malkmus – who was either a little drunk or more aloof AND COOLER THAN FUCKING EVER – stopped songs on at least two occasions, cussing and apologizing to the crowd in the process. A rare old man standing next to me – in the sea of youth that is Sasquatch! – got visibly frustrated, yelling “Come on!” the second time Malkmus halted. Most in the crowd, however, just felt sorry for Pavement. Something tells me that’s not how they planned it.

Our good friend Aaron Fortin filed this report for us from the Pavement show in Pomona, CA from the other night. Given that the band is about to rage everyone’s pants off today at Coachella, I figured I’d drop the post today to give the rest of us an idea of what they can expect.

Pavement :: Copenhagen, Denmark – June 20, 1993, Loppen [Aquarium Drunkard]
I can count on one hand the number of contemporary ‘indie rock’ bands that 90 percent of my friends all agree upon. As Pavement most definitely fall in that circle, it’s no surprise that it seems like every other person I know in L.A. is making the drive to Pomona, Thursday night, for their Coachella warm-up gig at the Fox. Below is the last show to feature original drummer Gary Young; Denmark 6-20-1993. See you in Pomona, and here’s hoping for a “Grounded.”
