2/15/11 update: The Official Bonnaroo 2011 Lineup has been announced.

Summer Festival wanderlust is in full force this week as , and an expected Jazz Fest lineup are released this week…

The powers-that-be just kicked the Bonnaspeculation season into overdrive by offering up their first in a series of clues that will lead up to the great big initial announcement in about a month’s time. Many of these cloos were misleading last year, and it seemed like the festival was just pulling our legs on a few. But after all, has always been a great marketing force (even in the first year, when they relied almost strictly on word-of-mouth), always adding something new to keep people like myself intrigued year-in-and-year-out The first clue immediately brings to mind the great , what are your thoughts?:

Clue #1 (courtesy of @Bonnaroo): A trip to space thwarted by a speckled lad’s demise. A watershed moment otherwise.

Not that Bonnaroo requires something like a big anniversary to pull out all the stops, but if the transformative Fifth Anniversary was any indication (2006–My personal favorite lineup, featuring Radiohead, Beck, My Morning Jacket, G.R.A.B., and Oysterhead), this year AC Entertainment and Superfly will be pulling out all the stops. So here is my completely speculatory list of artists who might be appearing on the farm in from June 9-12 (one can wish, wonder, and wander towards the Good Road): READ MORE

Yesterday we posted Pete’s review from the three-hour Paul McCartney concert this past Saturday night at AT&T Park. Today, our friend Spencer Crooks said we could publish a few of his amazing photos from the same show. Check out the review at The Owl Mag and check out this set of my favorite five photos he managed to capture. READ MORE

As I’m sure is the case for most of this blog’s readers, stadium shows are a necessary evil when it comes to live music — and one usually best left avoided. But if there were anyone that would be able to overcome the horrible acoustics of sporting arenas and the overall lack of intimacy that comes with a crowd 40,000 strong, you knew it would be one of the ultimate living legends: Mr. . I had heard that Sir Paul put on a good show, and he probably has the most well-loved and deepest catalog of any performer on the planet, but I was certainly not prepared for the absolute smackdown that occurred at AT&T Park last Saturday night. Videos are starting to leak from the honoring ceremony at the White House with Jack White, Seinfeld, The Jonas Brothers, and of course President all paying a bit of tribute to the man that has brought us so much music over the years. CoS has the clip of the artists (and Obama) singing “Hey Jude.” Amazing.

Paul McCartney said on Tuesday he was honored to be receiving one of the United States’ most important music awards, the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

To mark the occasion, a lineup of stars including Stevie Wonder, the Jonas Brothers, Herbie Hancock and Elvis Costello will pay tribute to the former Beatle in a concert at the White House on Wednesday presided over by President Barack Obama.

McCartney is the first non-American recipient of the award that has only been given twice before — to Paul Simon in 2007 and to Stevie Wonder in 2009.

It’s officially a proper start to the summer festival season with today’s first day of Coachella underway as I type this. The lineup didn’t necessarily blow me away this year, so thankfully for my skin and my pocketbook I won’t be in attendance. But I will get to enjoy some of the action from home thanks to the ever-present corporate webcasting giant, AT&T. Over on their new iteration of the Blueroom is a site called AT&T Music, and they’ll be webcasting all weekend from . Tune in today at 2:50pm PST when the actions kicks off.
