Based on the response to the lineup post on the annual Bridge School Benefit (set for the weekend of Oct. 22-23, 2011 again in Mountain View, CA), it’s pretty clear that this event is something that people really look forward to every year. A lot of folks are very loyal to the fantastic cause that is the Bridge School and it’s great to see all these amazing artists sign on, year after year.
The team behind the good cause just recently announced that they’re releasing a 3 DVD and/or 2 CD collection on October 24th (right after this year’s benefit) celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the event. With everyone from Neil Young himself to Fleet Foxes, Thom Yorke and Metallica, this release is definitely going to be something worth picking up. Shepard Fairey designed the cover art you see above. All proceeds from the release will go directly back to the Bridge School.
Here’s the trailer for the release:

The first cut from the new Umphrey’s McGee album, Death by Stereo, was just debuted over at Time.com.
It’s been more than two years without an album from progressive rock band Umphrey’s McGee. Now, TIME has the first listen of their new song, “Miami Virtue.”
They’re not so overwhelmed by the track, but I’ve got to say that it has all those classic elements and sounds I would expect to hear out of the band these days. Obviously they’re still a touring force and a band that’s continued to innovate in the way they release music, interact with their fans, and generally keep things interesting with those folks that follow along with these guys on the boards. That is to say, that the band releasing a track exclusively to Time.com as a music premier destination seems a bit odd, but maybe that’s exactly what UM is doing these days — keeping the fans guessing.
Keep reading to hear the track and get a list of the band’s current tour dates, including their Hauntlanta two-night run at the Tabernacle. >>>

Phish just announced Two Soundchecks, a special release for Record Store Day and the band’s first-ever live vinyl release.
On Record Store Day, Phish will release TWO SOUNDCHECKS, a Limited Edition 7-inch vinyl record that will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country. ‘Two Soundchecks’ marks the band’s first ever live vinyl release and their first release in conjunction with Record Store Day.
This 7-inch is limited to 2,000 hand-numbered copies, and once they are gone they are gone. The A-Side is an instrumental jam culled from the soundcheck of Phish’s third show of a sold out three-night stand at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. The B-Side is an especially exotic soundcheck from Hartford, CT in 2009, featuring Trey on Bass, and Fish on drums. This Limited Edition 7-inch was created exclusively for Record Store Day.
TWO SOUNDCHECKS will be available in stores only beginning April 16th, 2011. For a complete list of participating record stores, please click here.

Considering all the great videos Phish has been releasing through Vimeo from this past tour, it was only fitting a fresh DVD release was in store for us. The band has officially announced the release of a new, two-disc DVD called Coral Sky. Extra bonus — it’s an archived concert release from 1996, a very under-appreciated year that’s often overshadowed by the elder ’97. Double bonus — it’s going to be released fairly soon in the middle of the upcoming tour (October 19th) giving the West Coast fans something to look at.
The press release makes it abundantly clear it’s an uncut release, making that two discs worth of straight-in-your-face Phish. The way it should be. It casts little doubt that we won’t have to worry about having flashbacks to the IT DVD and the interrupting interviews. And just as our own @PeteLikesMusic highlighted in the 35 Jams for any Phish Novice post, “Crosseyed and Painless > Antelope” might be getting a lot of replay value in the DVD player.
