Our buddy Nick Isasi (@noodlecast) wrote up this awesome summary of all the amazing music he caught at this year’s Moogfest in Asheville, NC. There was a ton to take in and he was able to catch sets by Flying Lotus, the Flaming Lips, Battles, Amon Tobin, Holy Fuck and more…
Moogfest is a festival and celebration based around the memorial of Mr. Robert Moog. You know, that dude who invented the Moog Synthesizer which is used in so many music areas today. It was my first time attending this kind of festival that follows the SXSW format of “adopting” a community for a certain amount of time. I was excited to see how it would work. A relatively small town to hold a music festival, festival goers were forced to travel from venue to bar to parking lot to truly enjoy all of Moogfest.
Our buddy Nick Isasi (@noodlecast) is making the trek to this year’s Moogfest and he’s put together his list of must-see artists who are performing at the festival. The lineup is pretty amazing and we’re excited to have him helping us cover the event… READ MORE
Moogfest has added Terry Riley to this year’s lineup, a pioneer in electronic keyboard music and someone innovating way out ahead of folks like Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno and Pink Floyd. Woah, really?
Asheville, North Carolina’s festival ode to all things electronic music and Moog, Moogfest, just added some power to its already-solid lineup for 2011. Today, they threw a few new names into the mix, including TV on the Radio, Special Disco Version (featuring James Murphy and Pat Mahoney of DFA/LCD Soundsystem), St. Vincent, and Flying Lotus, among a bunch of others.
This fleshes out an already-stellar lineup of acts that cross the spectrum of electronic genres and styles, including three pioneers of electronic music: Tangerine Dream, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Suicide (who will perform their influential 1977 self-titled debut album in its entirety). Some other notable acts on the bill include: Battles, Crystal Castles, Chromeo, The Flaming Lips, Holy Fuck, M83, Passion Pit, Toro y Moi, and Umphrey’s McGee, just to name a few.
There’s been a ton of other music news this week besides all of those awesome updates from Phish yesterday, so I figured I’d round up a bit of it in one post here to get you some stuff to catch up on.
First and foremost, make sure you do check out all of those previews from the Coral Sky DVD that the band has planned. The official media page is now sporting the “Run Like An Antelope” video so we’ve added that to our Sights & Sounds post, so crank up the volume, throw on full-screen and put in your pre-orders for the DVD.
Hey, speaking of pre-orders, I didn’t catch this until a little birdy pinged me and found it in the fine-print: The pre-orders for Mike Gordon’s new album Moss will put you in the running to receive a bass lesson with none other than Mr. Cactus himself. You will learn the secret of the patented Cactus Bombs that found their way into each show night after night on the recent Phish summer tour. You, too, can learn how to do this. Wouldn’t that be sick? READ MORE

This lineup is just so epic on paper; if I was on the East Coast and couldn’t get Phish tickets this would have to be something I made time for. READ MORE
