This week in the NYC concert scene, we’ve got moe. doing a record release show, Rubblebucket and Superhuman Happiness hit the Bowery for a great double bill, Cloud Nothings playing Webster Hall, we get two nights of instrumental Zeppelin jams from our friends Bustle in Your Hedgerow, and Charles Bradley will bust out his James Brown tribute “Black Velvet.” Read on for the highlights as I see ‘em… READ MORE

Earlier yesterday fans of the Summer Camp Music Festival on Facebook and Twitter started to get treated to the official lineup announcement slowly but surely leaking out over the interwebs. I was busy so didn’t really have time to digest it, but waking up this morning to the official announcement and seeing that moe., Umphrey’s McGee, and Primus are all at the top of the lineup is a nice treat for any fans in Illinois that regularly make this festival. I used to attend this back in my formidable years in the Midwest and have nothing but fond memories and continued respect for the lineups that these guys have been putting together. READ MORE
It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day on Manhattan. The sites of the holiday, the bustle of the shoppers, the smell of the Halal Food trucks on every corner and The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park all while wearing short sleeves–”forget about it!” Temperature had to be somewhere between 60 and 70 degrees and the sun was out at the end of “Movember“, aka November or for me–aka “moe.vember”. This is a week to give thanks. Thanks to family, friends, good health, good food, and…..multi-night runs in NYC! Yep, for some reason, this week in NYC shows seems to be the week of two- and three-night stands including Allen Toussaint, the Cure, moe., M83 and Robert Randolph & the Family Band, just to name a few.
Here’s the breakdown of the week’s concert highlights with some video accompaniment… READ MORE
Our friend Nick Irving was able to get a last-minute trip in to see moe.down this year and he brought us back a nice little gallery of photos from the fest. There’s a few shots in there of the crowd, the vibes, and some Ween. He also managed to shoot Rubblebucket (again) and he got plenty of moe. throughout the weekend as well. Next year we need to ask for a photo pass earlier to get some of the crunchy shots you’d expect, but for now enjoy was Nick was able to bring back on limited access and look for us in the photo pits next year. >>>

Gelston Castle Estate, Mohawk, NY
While we’ve obviously been covering the hell out of the Phish Summer Tour, we’re also hella excited about this weekend’s annual moe.down Festival in Mohawk, NY. Our friend Nick Irving is going to be on-site shooting photos for the site (as best he can; we were too late to get a photo pass for the pit) and we’ll hope to have some coverage up after the fact. This lineup is eclectic as hell and the announcement is something I love to see year after year. While it’s definitely stacked with heavy hitters that you’d know and love already — moe., Bob Weir with Levon Helm Band, TV on the Radio, etc. — I’d take a look at the following artists on the lineup and make sure they get your full attention as well. moe. w/ Trey Anastasio - 2005 Tsunami Benefit @ Roseland Ballroom - Photo by Rex Foundation
Was looking for something to spin on Turntable.fm just now and came across this forgotten gem of a show from ’05 when moe. played host to a Tsunami Benefit at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom. Had forgotten how ridiculous this set list/guest list is/was/forever will be. Thankfully it’s housed on Archive.org for people to enjoy in perpetuity. When will a “Peaches en Regalia” with moe., Trey Anastasio and John Medeski ever happen again? Magical, never-to-be-repeated stuff went down that evening and the show raised $75,000 (which Dave Matthews matched) for recovery efforts in the wake of the horrific 2004 Indonesian earthquake. It’s always very impressive what bands can do when the siren rings and help is needed.
Hopefully such an effort will not be necessary in the coming weeks and Hurricane Irene will blow over with minimal damage, but if help is needed, the jam scene has always been great about banding together for a good cause to help those in need. With moe.down XII set for next weekend in Mohawk, NY perhaps the band can use the gathering as an opportunity to raise a little dough if needed. Fingers crossed for those on the Northeast coast. Check out the set list/guest list and a trio of videos after the jump. READ MORE
