Sorry for the absence of this here column last week; I got hit with an acute case of tonsillitis which definitely killed my Monday pretty badly. More on that to come, but for now let’s dive into the cool music coming through San Francisco this week that you all should be paying attention to. READ MORE

Like New Year’s Eve, Halloween is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There’s just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of Halloween that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the Halloween vibe in some way, touring bands often approach Halloween as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. We have also noticed a few bands that are taking a similar approach to Halloween as Phish by doing some sort of “musical costume” and either covering another band’s music or playing a full show of thematic covers. Here are a few of the more interesting “musical costumes” we’ve seen announced this year:

No offense to the promoters behind this year’s Las Tortugas Music Festival, but they clearly did not do their homework and decide to hold off this year given that they’ll be in direct competition with the Phish Halloween celebration dubbed Festival 8. It’s a good lineup and all, even if it’s about a 90% overlap of all the artists that just played High Sierra, but I just don’t see their festival selling enough tickets this year to justify the cost. That said, I do know one or two folks that still don’t care for Phish and may consider something like this instead, but to any of those folks my response is simple.
REALLY?
Wait…………….REALLY?
Are you sure?
SERIOUSLY?
Okay, well carry on then. Lineup after the jump. READ MORE
The lineup for Jam Cruise 8 was announced earlier this week, and it’s really quite impressive as always.
Departing Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Jam Cruise 8 will set sail January 3-8, 2010 on board the beautiful MSC Poesia and will visit the tropical ports of Ocho Rios, Jamaica and George Town, Cayman Islands. With 5 days and nights aboard the ship, there is plenty of time to kick back with friends and see an unbelievable amount of music.
