Post image for REVIEW: Moogfest 2011 (Tobin, Battles, FlyLo, STS9, UM & more)

Our buddy Nick Isasi (@noodlecast) wrote up this awesome summary of all the amazing music he caught at this year’s in Asheville, NC. There was a ton to take in and he was able to catch sets by , the , , , and more…

Moogfest is a festival and celebration based around the memorial of Mr. Robert Moog. You know, that dude who invented the Moog Synthesizer which is used in so many music areas today. It was my first time attending this kind of festival that follows the SXSW format of “adopting” a community for a certain amount of time. I was excited to see how it would work. A relatively small town to hold a music festival, festival goers were forced to travel from venue to bar to parking lot to truly enjoy all of Moogfest.

You been paying attention this year? We’re digging on their lineup and the daily schedule has been announced already. In addition to the top-tier lineup covered in untz and whomp, this year will feature the festival along with an expansion to a number of new venues in the Asheville proper. Post image for New Year’s Eve: Surprise Me Mr. Davis in SF, Pretty Lights in Chicago

In case you missed it late yesterday, a bunch of New Year’s Eve announcements hit the internets that I think you’d all be quite psyched about. First up, the gang in collectively announced a two-night run at Cafe Du Nord in featuring sets from SMMD, , and over the two nights. I’ve seen this show before and I’d love to see it again, especially on a New Year’s Eve that’s spent walking distance from my place. Pretty soon after that we got an announcement that Pretty Lights will be doing NYE in Chicago at the Congress Theater with on 12/30 and on 12/31.

Post image for Tour Dates: Particle, Holy Fuck, Beats Antique, & EOTO

There have been tons of tour announcements over the past few days so I thought I’d round up a few of the interesting tours I’ve seen that you need to keep on your radar. Perhaps the biggest news if you’re a fan of the untz jamtronica scene is that the original lineup for Particle will be returning for shows in October.

has announced that they will reunite with original guitarist Charlie Hitchcock for a select number of shows to celebrate the band’s 10-year anniversary. This is the first time in five years that Hitchcock has joined the band on tour, and fans can expect to hear all the classics, as well as new material.

If you remember, Charlie and the band didn’t really part all that amicably so let’s hope there are no meltdowns on stage. Read on for the dates… READ MORE

I saw Holy Fuck last week here at the Independent with the Portland duo Nice Nice, and left feeling like I had seen a pretty killer show all things considered. Nice Nice was a bit sonically boring even though their approach to music — a duo featuring a drummer, guitarist and a shitload of loops [...]
