We’re already a month into 2012 and therefore it’s time to take a quick look back at what local artists were up to in January. With such big events as Jam Cruise, Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s 50th Anniversary blowout at Carnegie Hall, the Best of the Beat Awards last weekend, there’s already been a healthy amount of big events featuring NOLA bands. As always, there’s plenty of live music filling the clubs here and with the ongoing Carnival season, the live music schedule in town is only going to heat up for the next 2 1/2 weeks leading to Mardi Gras. Check out the newly-minted tracks below and get down to some live music this Carnival season.
As always, the Winter/Spring concert calendars will heat up in a big way as the parade krewes begin to roll. Here’s a listing of concerts to pair with your 2012 parade schedule. Galactic is set to kick off their 2012 campaign tonight in Jacksonville, FL with a show in the intimate confines of the Freebird Live in Jacksonville Beach, the first of a mini-tour leading to their week aboard Jam Cruise 10. After a month off, the proper tour in support of their excellent new album Carnivale Electros (out on Mardi Gras Day – February 21, 2012) will kick into high gear with Mardi Gras shows in Mobile and their annual Saturday/Lundi Gras shows at Tipitina’s.
Alas, the wait is over and the 2012 Jazz Fest lineup is here. Thrilled to see the return of My Morning Jacket (played Jazz Fest and Voodoo in 2010) and Al Green (Jazz Fest ’08), as well as the incomparable Herbie Hancock, Foo Fighters, Givers, a special performance by Levon Helm Band with special guest Mavis Staples, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Janelle Monae and Steve Earle among so many others. Time to start planning and waiting for the late nights and dailies to roll in over the coming months. Who are you excited to see? And also, who’s the “TBA” on there? See below for ticketing information and a few words from festival producer Quint Davis regarding this year’s lineup.
