Festival 8

Phi8h: Halloween Phish in the Desert from Tim Saccardo on Vimeo.

I’ve had a bit more free time lately (more on that soon) and I’ve been devoting tons of that time to sifting through the media that I’ve collected over the past year but haven’t had a chance to fully digest. Rather embarrassingly, I still haven’t processed my collection from Phish Festival 8 and I’ll likely be posting a bunch of nuggets before the start of the summer tour.

The video shown above was one of the links that I got and I sat on posting it for a while because I wanted to call special attention to this 14 minute masterpiece. This clip perfectly sums up the festival for me. It felt like I was reliving it, and that’s a rare feat to accomplish when you throw together a collection of random media from the festival. I only hope my own collection can tell the same story, but I can guarantee I wouldn’t have the skill to make something this concise.

Big kudos to our friend Tim Saccardo for the link and the great video.

Coachella Arts & Music Festival is fast-approaching and it’s going to be a really solid year for the festival, with Phish to thank for their Festival 8 management and approach. It turns out the promoters were learning quite a bit last Halloween and they’re bringing some of that to this year’s

Remember that Phish 3D film we mentioned back in No. ’09 (during Festival 8)? Well, it looks like we’ve got some action in that department with a bunch of properties sprouting up around the Internets today. Check it out:

Yes, yes!

Photographer Michael Marantz put together an amazing photo compilation from Phish Festival 8 and it’s been making the rounds between me and my crew. Even though you may have seen it already, I strongly encourage you to watch it again this morning. It’s a great way to start the week.

From the artist:

This is a photo animation I made of the over October 30th – November 1st.

This work features music from the festival. This whole video is comprised of still photos that have been strung together.

Hope you enjoy!

Oh hai. I still haven’t even fully digested all that I took in at , and I’ve had a busy week with work and my band. Tomorrow, I plan on finally brain-dumping all of the goodness in my memories to this here blog and I fully intend to do a review proper justice. In the meantime, may I present to you…The Burble*.

* – this is what we called it all weekend, but just because it was super fun to say. Whatever it was, it was fun to see it dancing in the field with the rest of us.

It looks like the rumors of a 3D theatrical release for Phish’s Festival 8 are true. Check out page 2 in the Desert Sun’s coverage:

is getting a wide theatrical release next year of the 3D movie they shot at . Their advertising and publicity budget will be tiny compared to other nationally distributed films because they have such a direct relationship with their fans online.

No further details on when and where it will be released, but this is very cool. We’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about the U2 3D film, so this could be pretty huge.

I’m home from Festival 8 and I’m just now starting to digest and consume everything that went down from the fan’s perspective. The festival was amazing in some seriously impressive ways, and I’ll be working on a full review of everything I saw today when I start my new full-time job. But first, I figured I’d give a nod to the wondrous event that was Halloween with Exile on Main Street by posting a great full video of “Loving Cup,” the song from the album that fans knew the best (myself included).

Big thanks to Whitperson for running the show on the site this weekend and thanks to all the visitors for hanging out on LMB. We’ll have plenty more to see from the festival if you’re into that sorta thing. Stay tuned.

Phish @ Festival 8 - Night One

I have a friend who I consider a big fan who paid little to no attention to all the Phish Festival 8 coverage this weekend. So I was thinking, maybe he’s not the only one?

If there are any Phish fans out there who didn’t check out the coverage or live audio streams, then you might want to check out Mr. Miner’s No Spoliers downloads series. He’s offering downloads to complete sets from Indio this past weekend, without any tracking or setlist info, so you can hear the show as it happened. So far, he’s got the first and second days, and the third day is on its way.

Festival 8: It Begins

Festivals

Just wanted to post a quick update before night one of Phish Festival 8 begins… I’m just now checked into the media area on the far stage left here at Festival 8, and the festival grounds are beautiful with every bit of the Polo Grounds being touched by some level of Phish-y creative representation. I have to post this one, not just because of the obvious reason (that it’s more great live Phish), but because it comes to us courtesy of Dan, the owner of Eppie’s restaurant in downtown Charlottesville, where I actually used to live just a few months ago.
