This week’s -area concert calendar is bumpin’! The Allmans Brothers are back at the Beacon, ’s at the Count Basie Theatre, play the Williamsburg Waterfront, we’ve got two shows by reunited 90s alt-rock titans (Bush and STP), and this oddball lineup of , and are all at Jones Beach.

But, as usual, it’s the smaller club shows — and, in this case, the boat cruises — that interest me most. For something a bit more rock-based and singer-songwriter-y, check out and/or at the intimate Rockwood Music Hall. Or, get a little edgier with Sonny & The Sunsets et al over at the Glasslands Gallery in Williamsburg. But if you can only choose one, I highly recommend the on the Rocks Off Concert Cruise for some groove-laden horn funk by the dudes laying down instrumentals for the majority of Daptone Records releases. Can’t be beat.

The lineup for the annual was just leaked on a local radio station and Consequence of Sound was quick to pick up the story. As expected, Pearl Jam is making an appearance but it’s remarkably over-shadowed in a way by the likes of Buffalo Springfirled and on day one and and both appearing at each day. What an eclectic mix. The two-day event will be held at Shoreline Ampitheater in Mountain View, CA on October 23-24, 2010. READ MORE

I was actually lucky enough to get to attend the episode with Levon Helm, Nick Lowe, Richard Thompson, Larry Campbell, and Allen Toussaint at the Apollo here in . It was a great show, albeit a very niche program in a geeky music-nerd kind of way.
