We’re already a month into 2012 and therefore it’s time to take a quick look back at what local artists were up to in January. With such big events as Jam Cruise, Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s 50th Anniversary blowout at Carnegie Hall, the Best of the Beat Awards last weekend, there’s already been a healthy amount of big events featuring NOLA bands. As always, there’s plenty of live music filling the clubs here and with the ongoing Carnival season, the live music schedule in town is only going to heat up for the next 2 1/2 weeks leading to Mardi Gras. Carnival season gets into full-swing this weekend and Tipitina’s is planning a Carnival Kick-Off Party to get a one-night jump on Saturday’s Krewe du Vieux festivities.

Yep, for some reason, this week in NYC shows seems to be the week of two- and three-night stands including Allen Toussaint, the Cure, moe., M83 and Robert Randolph & the Family Band, just to name a few.

Randy over at Funk It! does some amazing videography work and this might be his best yet – a 16-minute video that manages to blow through 26 different performances from the 2011 Bear Creek Music Festival. Apparently Mr. Funk It managed to capture over 14 hours of footage from the weekend so expect a lot more in the coming months from the Live Oak fest. Continue on below for the tracklisting and video.
