Umphrey’s McGee just announced the release of a dub remix of “Turn and Run” from Mantis, which they’re calling “Turn and Dub.”

Normally it wouldn’t be big news to see a band put out a remix, but I was psyched to see the man behind the mix is Michael G. of Easy Star All Stars. Clearly the band has been inspired by this man’s work, as they started covering “Breathe” in the Dub Side of the Moon style a few years ago.

At 12:01 AM PT Tuesday, October 6th, we will release our first remix single, Turn & Dub, re-mixed by Michael G of Easy Star All Stars. Michael Goldwasser, as producer, musical director, arranger and guitarist, has been the man behind just about everything the Easy Star All-Stars have done in the studio and on stage including their best-selling tribute album releases, Dub Side of the Moon (2003) and Radiodread (2006), as well their newest release, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band. As we prepare for in Runaway Bay Jamaica December 10th through 13th, we are excited to share this dubbed out version of Turn & Run with you! The single will be available for download at umlive.net as well as iTunes, however, you will be able to stream the track at www.umphreys.com Monday October 5th.

Here’s the video evidence of the new-found styles of UM:

For our 56th podcast, I went with another thematic mix, but this time with an old stand-by: the Disco Biscuits.

I’ve always been big fan of the Biscuits’ “” style of improvisation. While their take on Dub isn’t really the real-deal, classic style of Dub Reggae (by the likes of King Tubby or Augustus Pablo), it’s always been a cool type of dark, instrumental improv that mixes really well with their dancier electronic stylings. I’ve spliced together some of my favorites into a mix I have entitled: Bisco in Dub.

Show notes:
1) 3/31/01 – “Down to the Bottom” intro
2) 12/30/01 – “Pygmy Twylyte”
3) 12/27/01 – “Hot Air Balloon”
4) 3/10/07 – “Orch Theme” from Langerado w/ Matisyahu on vocals
5) 12/28/01 – “Jigsaw Earth” (w/ Marc Brownstein banter spliced in)
6) 3/8/02 – “Above the Waves”
Total running time: 41:16
