This year’s lineup for the Mile High Music Festival was just dropped in our inbox, and it’s looking like a pretty solid, mainstream festival for the Colorado fans. The celebration returns to the lawns at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, CO for the weekend of August 14-15, 2010. You’ve got Jack Johnson topping the lineup on Saturday, August 14th and Dave Matthews Band topping the lineup on Sunday, August 15th, and the other bands rounding up the lineup are all headliner-worthy themselves with My Morning Jacket, Weezer, Phoenix and many more all set to play. Like New Year’s Eve, Halloween is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There’s just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of Halloween that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the Halloween vibe in some way, touring bands often approach Halloween as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. Just as we did with our New Year’s Eve concert round-up, we’ve compiled a list of Halloween concerts that will be going on this weekend (see below for the long list).
We have also noticed a few bands that are taking a similar approach to Halloween as Phish by doing some sort of “musical costume” and either covering another band’s music or playing a full show of thematic covers. Here are a few of the more interesting “musical costumes” we’ve seen announced this year:

It’s officially a proper start to the summer festival season with today’s first day of Coachella underway as I type this. The lineup didn’t necessarily blow me away this year, so thankfully for my skin and my pocketbook I won’t be in attendance. But I will get to enjoy some of the action from home thanks to the ever-present corporate webcasting giant, AT&T. Over on their new iteration of the Blueroom is a site called AT&T Music, and they’ll be webcasting all weekend from Coachella. Tune in today at 2:50pm PST when the actions kicks off.

Sunday was going to be a shorter day than the prior two, ending at ten, but the lineup was going to be chock full of musical goodness. Ensuring that we were going to have the fortitude we needed meant a solid breakfast, one that was found in Maggie’s Krooked Cafe in Tannersville. Very yummy.
We missed the Felice Brothers, but I was sure to be set up well before Drive-By Truckers took the stage. I’d try to be objective here, but its not possible. I love this band.

The last Drive-by Truckers show I saw was their stellar Dirt Underneath performance at Bowery Ballroom (photos here). I was stationed front and center for one of the best concerts I saw all year. They were more powerful, unplugged, than most any other band turned up to eleven.
That was in October. Last Wednesday night the BIG ROCK SHOW returned to New York City and I was psyched.

This was my seventh time seeing this band and it is great to see how they have evolved. No longer a three-guitar attack, there is room for John Neff’s pedal steel work, and Spooner Oldham on keyboards. Spooner, in particular, has added so much, making songs I’ve listened to so many times sound fresh. His work on “Hell No I Ain’t Happy,” among others, was just fantastic.
