Post image for Jam Cruise 10: Schedule Posted

The onboard programming schedule for was just posted. Dirty Dozen kicks off the kick-off party and it’s basically music nonstop from there on out.

Our very good buddy @PeteLikesMusic will be on the boat with the usual players and suspects (like Scotty B. from Hidden Track)…

We’ll be following along from the comfort of our own Couch Tour this year, but drop some comments for the other folks hitting the cruise and get in touch and make friends! Hope to make it some day.

Post image for TOUR DATES: Tinariwen playing Fun Fun Fun Fest this weekend

Tuareg blues grooves anyone?

I first got turned on to after eMusic flagged their last album as a recommendation. I certainly wasn’t alone in loving their sound, as they quickly put together a U.S. tour. Since then, they’ve caught the attention of some fellow musicians, as their new record, Tassili, features Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio along with of Wilco and the horns of the .

The band has been on the road for about a week now and will play Austin’s this weekend. Read on for the dates…

Post image for REVIEW / PHOTOS / VIDEO: 7 Walkers @ Tipitina’s 10/18/11
From the moment I entered Tipitina’s, it was plain to see 7 Walkers came to steal some face – and take the opportunity to get the well-worn tie-dyes out from the dresser drawers. The balcony and backdrop were draped in multi-colored tapestries, an oil paint artist was waiting for the first set to start so he could begin an improv experiment (a la STS9 live painting), a dead head by the bar was counting the multiple tie-dye’s draped over his shoulder. Best of all, Professor Longhair overlooked the band below, cosmically lit up in kaleidoscopic fashion from the first note through the second encore. Fall’s first chill winds blew in through the doors as the quartet opened with Grateful Dead’s “Space”, quickly warming up as the band segued into a funky rendition of the always-poignant “He’s Gone.” Effortlessly interspersing Dead classics like “Bird Song”, a healthy sampling of their new material, and a Meters staple (“Just Kissed My Baby”), 7 Walkers tore their way through set one – with a little help from the one and only Big Sam on “Eyes of the World” and the 7W original stone groove instrumental “For the Love of Mr. Okra” before set break.

There is a waitlist for parties that are still interested, but most people that were still on the fence at this point have now literally missed the boat. Read more…

Post image for Jam Cruise 10 Lineup Announced!

The lineup for was announced first thing this morning here on the West Coast, and I couldn’t be happier that I’ve already taken the plunge and pre-booked a cabin for the 10th anniversary of the floating festival that everybody has been raving about for years. This will be my first year on the boat, so I’ll be seeing plenty of unbelievably great music all while sailing the seas and partying with my fellow like-minded fans. Can’t wait.

One of the bigger reveals of the lineup has been the port destinations that the cruise is choosing, and this time the festival is setting sail a full week after New Year’s Eve with a January 9th departure n Ft. Lauderdale to make stops in Labadee, Haiti and then onto Falmouth, Jamaica. The whole thing winds back down on January 14th, 2012. Umphrey’s McGee, , , , Shpongle, New Mastersounds, , and are just some of the artists I’m excited to get a crack at seeing this year, and there’s tons more talent rounding out the lineup this year.

As hedonistic as the whole vacation is, I’m actually proud that the organizers thought to bring a stop by Haiti into the equation. More about those efforts were detailed in today’s press release… READ MORE

Post image for Photos: The 10 Best from North Coast Music Festival

This past weekend’s in Chicago looks to have gone off without a hitch and we’ll hope to see it return next year. Thanks to the promoters for getting us some photo passes, because our man Chris Monaghan absolutely killed it this weekend and took some amazing shots. You can look back at his photos from Day One, Day Two and Day Three or read on for his Top 10 Photos from the weekend with a bit of commentary on each. I had to include the photo from the New Deal set also, so technically I only gave him 9 choices from his entire set of photos from the weekend. Click here to see the full gallery…

Post image for North Coast Music Festival: Chemical Brothers, Umphreys, Bisco, Flying Lotus and more…

www.northcoastfestival.com

Last night during the second set of Umphrey’s McGee on Couch Tour, we got an announcement from keyboardist Joel Cummins regarding a festival that the band was going to be a part of in Chicago on Labor Day weekend. The festival is called the North Coast Music Festival and it’s going to be some serious heat for live music that weekend in the city. To get a lineup like this in Chicago starts to provides options to people besides the behemoth that is Lollapalooza, and the smaller and more eclectic and banging mix for your buck seriously puts this in good contention to be a standout festival of the year. Let’s hope for some bomb collaborations.

Check out their Twitter page here and follow along for the official lineup announcement. We have it on good authority that this is the lineup we’ll be seeing when it gets dropped.
