Wow, that was fast. Coachella 2012 has officially sold-out for both weekends that the festival was planned for. What was that, three hours of official on-sale and then they were gone? Incredible.

It’s always exciting news here when we see that Radiohead has expanded their 2012 tour dates to now include some summer dates in Europe. There’s still room for the band on that Coachella lineup(s) as well as the clear gap in the beginning of June when the band will probably be one of the major headliners at Bonnaroo again. Yes, that’s a guess only and I “may not have facts to support this” but it feels right given what we’ve seen hit the announcement wires thus far.
Read on for the band’s current set of dates: >>>
360 – Killer (12th Planet Remix) by theinsound
This fall, Los Angeles dubstep producer 12th Planet kicks off 53 dates across North America, joining Skrillex’s The Mothership Tour, plus headlining San Bernardino’s Nocturnal Wonderland, Los Angeles’s Hard Haunted Mansion and Milwaukee’s Turner Hall Ballroom. Also on the bill for the three-month tour — which will see only 4,000-plus capacity venues — is live-production outfit Two Fresh, DC Moombahton practitioners Nadastrom, and UK rap/grime troupe Foreign Beggars showcasing their first-ever North American performances. New Atoms for Peace coming soon? YES PLZ!
There’s huge news coming out of the Radiohead camp this morning following a radio show sit-in that Thom Yorke did with Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio. You can hear the whole show here:
Thom Yorke returns as Gilles’s special studio guest this week, and he brings with him an exclusive Jamie xx remix of Radiohead as well as the new remix album due for release next month!
The two go back to back for the whole show, and touch on everything from Berliners Modeselektor and Anstam’s dark beats, through to Footwork from DJ Slugo and some classic Bristol swag from Massive Attack. But not before dipping into classic US Jazz from Duke Ellington and Bossa Nova from Segio Garcia.
Radiohead fans and music lovers alike, this show is not to be missed!
The big reveal came during the interview segments where Yorke mentions that Radiohead will indeed be touring next year “on and off” and that he’s working on an Atoms for Peace album following the band’s epic 2010 tour (all via Green Plastic Radiohead). I saw the band at the Fox Theater in Oakland when they rolled through ahead of their Coachella appearance, and it was an absolute triumph of amazing music and I’m hella down with anything these guys are going to put together for a proper studio project.
And regarding the tour, it makes sense now especially given that the Coachella rumor mill is already saying that Radiohead and No Doubt are confirmed for the two-weekend festival in 2012. There’s really no reason to think it would not come true given the band’s affinity for the festivals last time they toured in support of In Rainbows. Good news for us in the Bay Area; Coachella week is always epic with the amount of music we get flowing in and out of the area. We’ll definitely be following this news closely.
The Sunday finale proved to be the finest of the fest with a chock-full schedule brimming with eclecticism. Always great to have this much on the slate to get you back and moving once again after a long weekend. With The Head and the Heart, Walkmen, The Lee Boys, the absolutely insane Bomba Estereo set, Manu Chao, Death From Above 1979, Arcade Fire and Empire of the Sun, the schedule was full of great bands I haven’t seen much or at all. A lot of stylistic range in Zilker Sunday and it proved to be an incredible end to the 10th Annual Austin City Limits festival. Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, after mentioning that he considers Austin to be the band’s American hometown, announced that the band is about to go on hiatus, marking ACL’s set as the final U.S. date for some time after a huge year that saw the Canadian band headline Jazz Fest, Coachella, Bonnaroo and take home a Grammy for Album of the Year. Continue on for a photo gallery and Top 5 from Sunday.
It’s almost time to pack it up — ACL is now a mere two days away. With Gary Clark Jr.’s amazing show last night at House of Blues and tomorrow night’s FUTUREBIRDS/J. Roddy Walston and the Business bill at One Eyed Jack’s, the mini-ACL that goes on here in New Orleans every year on ACL week has already begun (also, ACL performers Pretty Lights and Chromeo will be in town this weekend). Although we’ve featured mostly lesser-known artists for Days One and Two on here, for Sunday, it feels necessary to endorse the rare American festival sets of Manu Chao and Randy Newman and the fact that Arcade Fire may be disappearing for a bit after an extremely busy year of major shows headlining Coachella, Jazz Fest, Bonnaroo and now ACL, and that’s just in the United States.
Really loved this video that Brandon Sloan put together on this year’s Wakarusa Music Festival, an often overshadowed festival event in the currently crowded space occupied by the Bonnaroos and Coachellas of the world. Given that I’m in a car on my way up to High Sierra and I brought my cameras to get as much coverage as possible, I figured I’d finally drop this as inspiration.
Great work, Brandon.
