hits this week for a 4-night run @ Brooklyn Bowl

I’m out of pocket this week and man…it looks like I picked a bad week to head out of town. There are a bunch of interesting shows going on this week with plenty of options for dancing, rocking, and jammin’. Read on for my run-down…

Post image for Photos: Sunday @ Outside Lands 2011

The third and final day of wrapped up yesterday and I was there to catch a bunch of the untz-y action. I made the festival grounds just in time for a full set, a high-energy set that seriously got people rocking and waving their shirts, a bit of the Decemberists then the remainder of STS9, and a headlining slot by that brought the kids to their feet hopping and wearing glowsticks and random furry costume accessories. In other words, it was a solid end to a successful festival for me and I’m hoping to finish off my main thoughts on the event while I’m mid-flight to Chicago for the Phish three-night run that begins tonight at UIC Pavilion. Let’s hope this wifi holds out! >>>

The lineup for 2011 just dropped with Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse and My Morning Jacket at the top of the list of artists set to play this year’s 20th anniversary festival. It must be “West Coast Music Festival Lineups” week here at LMB. The Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle just announced their lineup today for the weekend of July 23-25th, 2010. It’s absolutely stunning for the price of admission. This is seemingly worth traveling for at that rate; some three-day passes are still available for $60.

In unabashedly conspicuous celebration of 14 years of independent music and culture, the Block Party has added a THIRD Day! After 13 years of being a two day festival, community support and tremendous talent opportunities initiated the addition of a 3rd day, Sunday July 25th.

Discounted: $60 three-day passes on sale Friday May 21st.
Discounted: $23 single-day tickets available on Friday June 4th.

Advance 3 Day Passes available here: www.thestranger.com/blockparty3daypass

Sugar & Gold @ The Independent, 8/27/08

Sugar and Gold was a band that seriously looked like they just stepped out of the 70′s when I saw them open for !!! (chk chk chk) at the Independent last year. They could have been the house band at that really awesome party scene from “Boogie Nights” where Dirk has the epiphany about what his acting name should be. They’re that awesome.

They’re hitting the road this fall for a full national tour, and they’re starting things off here in San Francisco on Thursday night at The Eagle. I hope I can make it. Read on for their full itinerary… READ MORE

!!! (Chk Chk Chk) @ The Independent, 8/27/08

I figured I’d put up at least one post about another band besides Phish considering the domination on the site recently. I’ve got a tons more Phish posts coming, too, so in the meantime let’s talk about something else.

One of my other favorite bands to see live is !!! (chk chk chk). They have consistently put on a solid show when I’ve gotten a chance to see them live, and I’ll definitely be front row at the Independent here in San Francisco when they roll through on their fall tour. The Needle

2008 kicked off this last Saturday of Labor Day weekend, and I was on hand to score some pictures and find some new live acts for all of you to put on your must-check-out lists. Considered by some to be a weak line-up this year, and others to be an amazing lineup, I have to say the lack of any extreme, must-see headliners benefited me, since I managed to check out new acts all weekend long that I would never have looked into otherwise.
