Rubblebucket @ moe.down 2011
This week in the NYC concert scene, we’ve got moe. doing a record release show, Rubblebucket and Superhuman Happiness hit the Bowery for a great double bill, Cloud Nothings playing Webster Hall, we get two nights of instrumental Zeppelin jams from our friends Bustle in Your Hedgerow, and Charles Bradley will bust out his James Brown tribute “Black Velvet.” Read on for the highlights as I see ‘em… READ MORE
The annual Wanee Festival announced their initial set of artists today with the old-school heavy hitters of Allman Brothers Band and Furthur taking lead on the lineup this year. Both bands will be performing two nights so the sit-in potential on this festival is absolutely insane. That’s obviously what the promoters go for when they throw parties at this spot; my friends said Bear Creek was just a constant stream of sit-ins and sets with more guests than you could keep up with notating.
The fest returns to Suwannee Music Park in Like Oak, FL the weekend of April 19-21, and it’s a doozy if you’re a jamband fan whatsoever. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Read on for the lineup… >>>

This week in NYC the live music scene calms down a bit, with much slimmer pickings than the last few weeks. But there’s still some good stuff to sink your teeth into, including a few more two- and three-night runs (playing off of last week’s theme). Check it: READ MORE
Austin City Limits served as the ultimate break from the status quo, an ephemeral voyage to a utopia far removed from normative daily life, embedded in the heart of one America’s most interesting cities. Also, the extended weekend was a long overdue first trip to Austin, TX for me personally, and I immediately became enamored with the place (a city with great live music and great Mexican food – is this real life?). The familiar ambitions of seeing as many bands as humanly possible and packing a month’s worth of debaucherousness into a less-than-100-hour window were once again prevalent and a good mix of festival favorites like Arcade Fire, Manu Chao, Santigold and My Morning Jacket paired well with a number of acts I’ve just recently got attuned to recently like Charles Bradley, Reptar and Phosphorescent. Free form noodling, shuffling and the new-to-me, slow-mo/glitchified moves of dubstep all ensued, copious amounts of Torchy’s tacos were consumed and one of the best all-around festival experiences of my life was had. ACL 2011 ranks high in many important festival categories so continue on below for some general festival critiques, musical recaps and a few videos to wrap up our coverage. Until next time – Keep Austin Awesome.
