Post image for Tour Dates: Kings on Leon Tap The Whigs, Built to Spill, The Black Keys and More for Opening Slots

The boys in Kings of Leon just put out their updated tour dates with the openers for each date on the tour, and it’s shaping up to be an impressive arena-rock tour before the shows have even started. The band tapped for dates in June, and The Features for dates in July, then the Stills join in late July with joining for the dates in September. Any one of those combination would be epic in an arena and well worth the trip out to the show. READ MORE

The lineup for this year’s LouFest in St. Louis is pretty rad. A two-day pass only sets you back $64 which includes all service fees and shipping costs, so it’s a no-brainer if you’re in the area on the weekend of August 28th-29th.

LouFest is a grassroots, 2-day music festival in Forest Park that will celebrate the spirit of St Louis. It will feature 18 bands from a range of genres–including rock, pop, folk, country, and alt country. There will be a headliner each night along with the hottest established and emerging artists on the national and local scene.

The festival will feature 2 stages running back to back, food and drinks from area merchants, a Kids Village for kids (and kids at heart), and an EcoZone to promote conservation, recycling and clean energy.

Post image for 2009 Halloween Concert Round-Up

Like New Year’s Eve, is another holiday that a lot of bands choose to celebrate in style. There’s just something about mixing the live concert experience with all the fun and choas of that really brings out the freaks. While most bands typically play into the vibe in some way, touring bands often approach as an opportunity to really create a unique live music event. Just as we did with our New Year’s Eve concert round-up, we’ve compiled a list of Halloween concerts that will be going on this weekend (see below for the long list).

We have also noticed a few bands that are taking a similar approach to Halloween as by doing some sort of “musical costume” and either covering another band’s music or playing a full show of thematic covers. Here are a few of the more interesting “musical costumes” we’ve seen announced this year:

Just a few weeks back I caught Built to Spill for about the third time at the opening day of Outside Lands, and I really felt like the band was nailing the time slot perfectly for the crowd that was at the fest. They’re heading back out on the road this week starting in Boise. Read on for the dates… READ MORE

outside-lands

The grounds are being prepared in Golden Gate Park for this weekend’s second incarnation of the Outside Lands Music Festival, an event that I’ll be in attendance for once again this year. I’m excited for the weekend and the good lineup, and I’m looking forward to seeing a few bands that I’ve never seen before. I’m going to run down what I think I’m going to see this weekend and why I think you should join me. If you’re going to the fest tomorrow drop me a line and maybe we can hang out. READ MORE

Pitchfork Fest 2009 logo

The lineup for the Pitchfork Music Festival got a few additions the other day, with , Fucked Up, M83, Black Lips, and a few others added to the already amazing festival roster. I really hope I’ll be able to attend this festival, with the Friday night “Write the Night” series seriously exciting the hell out of me. For those that haven’t heard about this already, check it:

A reminder: On Friday, July 17, we’ll launch the “Write the Night: Set Lists by Request” series, in which four bands will all play fan-selected set lists. Here’s how it works: You, the audience, vote on which songs all four bands– , the Jesus Lizard, , and – will play. When you buy your ticket, you’ll get a confirmation email. That confirmation email will include a link to a page where you can vote on which songs from each band you want to hear. The bands will tailor their set lists accordingly. (Also worth mentioning: This will be the Jesus Lizard’s first American show in a decade.) Voting ends June 12.

Man we were light on posting last week. I’ve been totally out of loop since moving into a new apartment, but now that I’m settled in and mostly unpacked I’ll have some more time to devote to this here website. Sorry for the lack of updates from my side. I always apologize, I know — and that really doesn’t do much, I know — but just understand that I have really been trying hard to keep up as the site is still something I very much love to do and I love that people still come hang out with us online.

Here’s a bunch of other stuff that was going on while we weren’t posting too many articles.

  • is being joined by and (!) for four dates in the Northeast in early November. That, my friends, is insane. Someone remind me to download those shows. [Hidden Track]
  • Ryan posted the latest Live Music Podcast, an set from 2005. [The Live Music Podcast]
  • covered “Paper Planes” live in Italy and it sounds really amazing. Anyone know where to find a full version? [Stereogum]
  • LL Cool J just played House of Blues in Chicago and liveDaily was there to take photos. I wonder if it was any good. [liveDaily]
  • just bought a talent agency. I thought that was the only thing they did not have power over already, the talent side of the equation. [liveDaily]

More good stuff to come, folks. I missed you guys.
