Anyone check out this lineup at the Rock’n'Roll Resort this spring? They’re calling it the Rock’n'Roll Resort: A Psybient Soiree. I’m not so sure about that name, but if you’re into EDM and live electro, this one looks pretty interesting. Headliners include Shpongle, Conspirator (two sets!), Hallucinogen LIVE, and OTT, as well as one of my personal favs, Brothers Past (also doing two sets).
The Rock’n'Roll Resort takes place March 30- April 1 at Kutcher’s Resort (indoors) in Monticello, NY. READ MORE
After catching last Friday’s smokin’ Brooklyn Bowl show, I’m now back on a solid Brothers Past kick and couldn’t pass up this week’s news. The band has announced a new set of spring tour dates, adding onto their previously-announced Midwestern tour in February, along with a bunch of 2012 festival slots (including the Aura Music Festival, The Rock and Roll Resort, the Mantrabash, and Camp Barefoot….uber heady). Last night, I caught a killer Brothers Past show at Brooklyn Bowl. Unlike the last time the band played the Bowl during an epic 2010 snowstorm, BP had a huge turnout for this one. The band really stepped up their game last night, delivering a solid two-set dance throwdown for the NYC crowd. I snapped a few photos and thought I’d post them up along with the setlist and some vids from YouTube. READ MORE
This week in NYC shows is another mellow one compared to the normal onslaught of great concerts, but there are definitely some interesting happenings, including the New York Guitar Festival, Girls and Real Estate at Terminal 5, and Brother Past‘s triumphant return to Brooklyn Bowl. READ MORE

Happy holidays, dudes and dudettes! Hope you got everything you wished for and downed copious amounts of egg nog. Now, on to more important stuff than family gatherings and gift exchanges….live music! Naturally, there are ton of great shows going on this week in NYC as we lead up to New Year’s Eve, including some multi-night holiday runs, some late-night throwdowns, and plenty of NYE parties that don’t involve watching a ball drop in 10-degree weather. It’s been way too long since I posted a full-fledged Hippie Workout Mix, so what better day to post a new one than on the day of the NYC Marathon.
For Volume 5 in our Hippie Workout Mix series, I decided to go back to an old stand-by for workout tunes: Brothers Past. BP’s live shows always provide an intensity that’s just perfect for these mixes. Although they’ve only been gradually ramping up their touring schedule since reuniting a coupe years back, the limited shows they have played have been stellar. Here’s hoping they can expand to a denser touring schedule in 2012, because more people need to get a taste for this stuff in the live setting. Speaking of which, they just announced a decent-sized East Coast New Year’s run. READ MORE
This week in NYC shows, there’s some great jazz, including Pat Metheny (Tues @ The Blue Note), Wynton Marsalis (Fri & Sat @ Lincoln Center), and Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman (Sun @ Bailey Hall). Other than some classic jazz, there’s a nice mix of funk, folk, rock, and a ton of live electronic dance music to round out the week.
