Broken Social Scene
Check out my quick video preview of some of the artists that you can see today for FREE down in Golden Gate Park as part of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Why am I not there and publishing this now, you ask?! There may have been a flask involved in yesterday’s preceedings…
Here’s my quick thoughts from day one and read on for a bunch of videos from the amazing talent on the lineup from day two… >>>
PHOTOS: Broken Social Scene @ ACL Fest 2011 (DAY THREE)

We’ve got a few more photosets to get posted from this year’s ACL Fest, but we were definitely a bit more mellow on our coverage of the third and final day of the festival. At least I was. A bit of that fatigue sets in and you start to make a few decisions on when to chill and relax, so I was psyched to see a few bands on Sunday’s lineup that allowed me to float around because I had seen them before (which, in turn, allowed me to chill). Broken Social Scene was definitely one of those bands and the first one I shot, and I got to see some of the “classics” like “7/4 (Shoreline)” and “Major Label Debut.” Fun times.

The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival has announced its 2011 lineup, featuring HSB mainstays like Bela Fleck, Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson, and Robert Plant, alongside less bluegrass-ey artists like Bright Eyes, Broken Social Scene, Buckethead, Fitz & the Tantrums, Kurt Vile & the Violators, and MC Hammer (no, seriously; he’s running the annual children’s program). The three-day music festival is FREE and will take place September 30th through October 2nd in Golden Gate Park (at the Speedway Meadow).

Anybody check out that Broken Social Scene webcast last night? What I was able to catch was pretty killer. They featured a nice mix of older, more classic tunes along with a bunch of newer material from Forgiveness Rock Record, which easily made it onto my list of top albums of 2010. Good stuff.
Broken Social Scene has a few other dates on the docket for their winter tour, but I imagine they’ll keep adding to the list for 2011, since they’ve now got a Saturday spot on the freshly announced lineup for Coachella. Check it… READ MORE
Couch Tour 2011 starts tonight. If you can’t make it to the Broken Social Scene show at Terminal 5 in NYC tonight, Bowery Presents will be offering a webcast of the show starting around 9pm ET over at their YouTube channel. As far as I can recall, this is a first for the Bowery folks offering a webcast. Hopefully we’ll see more like this (Trey Anastasio Band in February anyone?).
I caught a killer Broken Social Scene show this summer in Central Park. I was really impressed with their nearly three-hour rock extravaganza and how much they stretched the songs out from the album versions (they were almost…jammy).
Here’s their take on “Superconnected”
Make sure to check out the guitar/sax solo duel around the 2:55 minute mark. Some good stuff.

Treasure Island 2010 Lineup: Belle & Sebastian, The National, LCD Soundsystem, BSS, She & Him and more!

Our friends at Consequence of Sound must have gotten the lineup to the upcoming Treasure Island Music Festival a few days early, and we’re blown away to see a seriously solid lineup for this year’s edition of the annual indie rock and electronic music festival here in the Bay Area. I love that LCD Soundsystem is coming back for a headlining slot, and the emotional and anthemic sets we’ll see delivered from Belle & Sebastian and the National will give me a chance to dive deeper into those catalogs ahead of the festival. It helps that Broken Social Scene and !!! (Chk Chk Chk) will be there, too.
Much like the case in past editions, Treasure Island 2010 will split its two days (Oct. 16-17) between alternative and electronic outfits, with Belle & Sebastian, The National, LCD Soundsystem, and Deadmau5 sitting at the top of the bill.
Other acts set to appear include Broken Social Scene, She & Him, Kruder & Dorfmeister (live), Miike Snow, !!!, Superchunk, Surfer Blood, Die Antwoord, Little Dragon, Four Tet, Rogue Wave, Ra Ra Riot, Monotonix, Phantogram, The Sea & Cake, Phosphorescent, Holy Fuck, Jamaica, Wallpaper, Papercuts, Maus Haus, and The Mumlers.
Sick, right? Who are you most excited to see? Or wait, this is the same weekend as the Phish in Vegas rumors that are floating around, so maybe I need to hold off on getting too excited myself. I’ll be trekking the Vegas if the opportunity presents itself.
