Post image for Jazz Fest Flashback: The String Cheese Incident @ Saenger Theatre 5/5/2000
In honor of The String Cheese Incident’s first full tour firing up next weekend in Asheville, we are featuring a classic show from the still-yet-to-be-reopened Saenger Theatre in 2000. This SCI/Bela Fleck twin bill was a Superfly Presents production pre-dating the locally born entertainment company’s big jumping off point in 2002 when they helped create the now-legendary Bonnaroo Music & Arts festival.

The concert calendar chills out a bit this week. But there’s still plenty of action, including a jam-packed weekend of shows that’s going to set up some tough decisions. Here’s the week’s highlight reel… READ MORE

Post image for JAZZ FEST 2012: Rumors, Guesses, Wishes & More

The is now in the rearview and the relentless fall concert schedule is starting to slow down (although one could easily keep themselves busy on the live circuit until NYE) and therefore it’s time to start speculating about the 2012 Jazz Fest lineup. Hard to say who will be at the top of the bill when the lineup is announced but since we’ve probably got a over a month until the lineup release (or two months if released on last year’s timetable), here’s a handful of artists (however unlikely some may be) who could conceivably be at the Fairgrounds come Spring time. Post image for PHOTOS / VIDEOS: Bela Fleck & the Flecktones @ House of Blues 10/11/11
Last week, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones returned to New Orleans for a lengthy show at House of Blues with their newly reunited original lineup that now features Howard Levy in the place of Jeff Coffin, who has been off touring with Dave Matthews Band for the past few years. To be a member of this band, you must be a MASTER of your instrument and Howard Levy certainly fulfills this lofty responsibility on both the piano and harmonicas.

Last night Bela Fleck & the Flecktones returned to New Orleans to play House of Blues with a full-on “reunited” original band now featuring Howard Levy in the place that Jeff Coffin had most recently been filling. Here’s a video that just surfaced from the show...

WHY: The Original lineup of the Flecktones reformed recently for the first time in nearly two decades, putting out the band’s first album of new material in six years with Rocket Science. Piano/harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy (aka “The Man With Two Brains”) steps back into the band, filling the void left by sax man Jeff Coffin, who has had his hands-full on the road as a full-time touring member of the Dave Matthews Band.
Post image for Béla Fleck: Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra, Flecktones Tour Dates

has released more details surrounding his Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra planned for September 22-24 with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Very cool.

Béla Fleck will present the world premiere of his Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra — one of the first ever written for the instrument — with the Nashville Symphony on September 22-24 at Schermerhorn Symphony Center. To be performed by Fleck on his vintage 1937 mahogany Gibson Mastertone banjo, the Concerto marks a significant new departure for Fleck, who calls the piece “a liberating experience for my efforts as a composer and hopefully for the banjo as well.” Commissioned by the Nashville Symphony, Concerto for Banjo and Orchestra will be the centerpiece of the orchestra’s opening concerts in the 2011/12 SunTrust Classical Series.
