Phish to Play Austin City Limits Festival, 2010 Lineup Announced

The rumor department did indeed get this one correct: Phish has been confirmed as one of the headliners for the 2010 lineup at Austin City Limits Festival. The band will be playing the festival on Friday, October 8th.

We’re excited to announce Phish’s return to Texas for the first time since 2000. The band will headline the 2010 Austin City Limits Music Festival on Friday, October 8, performing one two-hour set at Zilker Park in Austin, TX. Other performers include The Eagles, Muse, The Strokes, Flaming Lips, Spoon, Vampire Weekend and Norah Jones.

Single-day tickets go onsale today, Tuesday, May 18th, at 10am Central Time. Three-day tickets are completely sold out. VIP tickets and Travel packages are still available. For complete information, please visit http://www.aclfestival.com.

As mentioned above, the rest of the lineup is definitely a good one for you money’s worth.

There’s a rumor going around that Phish is potentially playing the Austin City Limits Festival this year, which is set for October 8-10, 2010, and given that I’ve heard it from a few different spots now I’d say it’s definitely worth posting. Dr. Pauly at Coventry agrees.

As always, rumors are just rumors so don’t get your hotels reserved yet.

The brilliant and eclectic Andrew Bird is a busy man these days. He’s currently out on tour with St. Vincent, in support of his recent album, Noble Beast. The two artists will be featured on the next episode of Austin City Limits. The show will air this Sat. Oct 24 but will also available for online streaming, as we mentioned previously.

Bird also just announced a few special Midwest shows in Minneapolis and his home base of Chicago. The shows are being themed around the Dutch concept of “Gezelligheid” — which loosely translates to “coziness” — and they’ll feature him playing solo, focusing on instrumental pieces, and using ambient lighting and giant horns instead of a more traditional amplified P.A. system. The rest of his tour continues well into 2010 and will take him to venues throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

In addition, Bird’s October 16th performance at the Pabst Theater was recorded and subsequently released as a podcast by 88Nine RadioMilwaukee.

Now that Austin City Limits is streaming its new episodes online, it looks like they’re also digging into the archives. They’re celebrating their 35th Anniversary this Saturday by offering an online stream of their first pilot episode with Willie Nelson from 1974. Cool.

Austin City Limits has just announced that it will be offering online streams of episodes from its 35th season. Shows will be available online at http://video.pbs.org on the day after their initial airing. It looks like Hulu will be streaming live from the Austin City Limits festival this weekend. You may remember iClips.net also announcing a live stream for ACL fest. As such, I thought for a minute that these might have been two separate streams. But I’ve just confirmed with Nate at iClips that this is, in fact, the same live stream which iClips.net is just syndicating to Hulu.

Speaking of the Austin City Limits Festival, over at the ACL fest blog they just posted a 16-song sampler of bands that are playing this weekend. The digital sampler is available for free at iTunes with a redemption code.

In case you missed our recent interview with the CEO from iClips, we’ve learned that the company is taking the lead in trying to get quality live concert webcasts to the masses. And even though AT&T Music just did the webcast from Bonnaroo, it looks like they’re not going to be the preferred webcast partner for a few of the festivals that we’ve seen from them in the past.
