Bonnaroo 2007 | Lineup Rumors

filed under: , , | tags:

There are a few music festivals that stir up the rumor mill pretty hard each year, and Bonnaroo is definitely part of that group...

We haven't been down to Bonnaroo since my '04 Sun Poisoning Debacle, but that still doesn't stop us from asking the internet the following questions...

tent cityWho's going to headline? Who's going to get the late-night spots? Who'd be perfect for a late-night spot that I'd like to see play? Who's going to guest with who? What kind of bio-diesel fuel vehicles are going to show up? Who's playing the comedy tent?

You can't really blame the fans for this rampant pre-planning that ultimately goes nowhere; rumors are only rumors until they announce the official lineup. Given the fact that the officially lineup normally carries like 1,500 bands or something insane like that, it's fairly easy to guess a couple music festival heavies that will surely end up on that list. The Wikipedia entry on Bonnaroo is normally our guide here: My Morning Jacket, Guster, Tea Leaf Green, Ryan Adams, Wilco, etc.

You have to assume that at least half of those bands will get added in the end, which could be partially due to the fact that the Wikipedia entry is already brimming with rumors that Superfly is most certainly aware of already. "Oh -- they think Sufjan Stevens is going to be there. Hmm...did we talk to his people yet?"

that tent bonnaroo 2004Or maybe, just maybe -- they say "Oh...they think we're booking Arcade Fire? Just to show them up, we'll book The Decemberists instead..."

Who the hell knows, really. It's all half-assed speculation at this point until that lineup actuallys gets posted.

One thing is certain, though -- my inbox keeps filling up with the hopes and dreams of other fans that think one major headliner will surely turn heads when they're announced as one of the big dogs on the bill: Pearl Jam. I've got it on fairly good authority that they're going to be there, but for now, call it what it needs to be called -- a rumor.

I'll update the *for sure, bra*'s as they come in...

I predict either Phish, vida blue, or Jazz madilion project for a phish fans. Then YMSB,STS9,MMW,the wood brothers cat empire, rambling dove, the dead, panic, wilco, sting cheese, moe, primus,KELLER WILLIAMS and many more great acts. I dont know why but I see this year heading back in the 2000-2002 jam band direction that brought the crowds to bonnaroo in the first place. No matter who shows I will go, but I want at least 1 of the acts I named to be a headliner or play more than one night. So help a music fan out Bonnaroo give us a year we wont forget and show all the people who question the roo pissed they didnt go. Peace Andrew

i don't know anything, its just a wishlist/prediction from my studies of various resources

Posted by: nate | December 27, 2006 6:28 PM

As long as we're throwing out random speculation for Bonnaroo headliners, how about something more European and a bit more off-kilter as a follow-up to Radiohead....the Cure?

By the way, looks like the wiki page has Cold War Kids and John Butler Trio confirmed.

Posted by: WHITperson | December 29, 2006 4:25 PM

I have it on very personal INSIDE info that "BIG"Peter Yorn will be playin also!!!!

Posted by: LaRita | January 1, 2007 3:41 AM

Patton Oswalt will be there. Check his Calendar at his website. (I know he's a comedian, but nonetheless, he's a funny motha

Posted by: dave | January 5, 2007 11:57 AM

I thought about The Cure too, although didn't they play Lolla a few years ago? That might be too predictable a move for AC Entertainment & Superfly. Seems like the trend has been to zig.

Posted by: surrender [TypeKey Profile Page] | January 5, 2007 4:44 PM

How about Tesla????

Posted by: Robin Gibson | January 8, 2007 9:28 AM

Roger Waters would be a great headliner.

Posted by: jeff | January 10, 2007 7:47 AM

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the fact the Bob Dylan was put forward as a possible headliner on Wikipedia

Posted by: Mike | January 10, 2007 11:55 AM

dylan would be awesome im named after him and evry time he comes through tampa i see him

Posted by: DYLaN | January 10, 2007 4:43 PM

where are you guys getting this rumored stuff? It is funny to see you guys take guesses for the festival(bonnaro)..........i work there- seen all the shows onstage/back stage...Each year passes you can begin to see the loss of the true nature of the festival, the more popular it gets(mainstream), the lesser the ecclectical value to those musicians and those who love/understand music. Musical independence, independent labels, speaking the truth/norms for the people..that is how the true idea of the bonnasroo started...As Dr. John once said, 'The bonnaroo..to have a good time'

Posted by: Ricky | January 13, 2007 12:18 PM

Ok I posted before about my wish list but I do think that Little Feet will be there and since I've been to all and see Bonnaroo grow some things stay the same so look for
moe.
Bela Fleck
Les Claypool
Galactic
Green Leaf Tea
these are staple bands of Bonnaroo, I just hope the they don't get too many rave acts, that brought a lot of uncool people in the past, But the hot talk this year is Perl Jam. NO Dave Mattews is my only hope.

Posted by: Branham | January 14, 2007 12:28 AM

Fountains of Waybe will be there. Not exactly a jam band, but I sure will enjoy it.

Fountains of Wayne - confirmed...

Posted by: Justin | January 19, 2007 7:07 AM

and to the roo staff member on here, i think thats a poor attitude towards the "mainstream", theres nothing wrong with eclecticness being mainstream, we should most definetley pass it around. No one on here can specifically say "this is my festival", it's not. we get to hear and see all this great music in one spot, thats a gift we oughta be sharing with the mainstream or anyone else whose interested in being a part of it.

Posted by: Zombie | January 19, 2007 9:57 AM

expect tencious d to show up at bonnaroo
ween would be the best think ever they showed up

Posted by: joe | January 19, 2007 1:35 PM

Goin' out on a limb here, but while we're taking guesses....

A WHITE STRIPES/RACONTEURS SET!

Hell, Jack can probably jam with anyone from Trey to Maynard to Dr. John.

Posted by: ZEWgirl | January 19, 2007 4:23 PM

What about Damian Marley?!?!?! Hell of a show last year. I saw him at ACL too and it didn't even compare to Bonnaroo! Who know?

Posted by: jk | January 20, 2007 12:29 PM

Having James Brown just die makes your realize the older acts won't be around much longer. Bonnaroo can wait for Pearl Jam. Give us Stevie Wonder or BB King or both.

Posted by: Ryan Irish | January 20, 2007 5:23 PM

ugh i just read a few of those and Tool = never and i agree with the people from Bonnaroo mainstream music is ccccrap. Doc Watson should be invited back and Buddy Guy, Neil Young, and WILLIE Nelson the only trendy act i'd want to see is 311 and they can't play anything loud just reggae.

Posted by: boots | January 22, 2007 8:16 PM

...Tool is more of a Bonnaroo band than an Ozzfest band.

Posted by: Pig | January 23, 2007 2:17 AM

If u guys havent notice, Maynard has stopped being such a prick in the last year or so. He's lightened up quite a bit, whose to say what bands are roo bands and what bands aren't. If Trey Anastasio can call Tool one of teh trippiest bands around and that he would like to see them headline this years Roo, I'd say that kind of makes them a Bonnaroo type band. Look at Radiohead last year - not exactly a jam band either. How about Cypress Hill? Or Matisyahu, shit his music stands against what alot of people go to Bonnaroo and do... I would say expect anything.

Posted by: Zombie | January 23, 2007 7:18 AM

I would love to see The B-52's. I was such a let down not to see Dave at the roo last year. Hes been there every year. Dylan is gonna be real good.So here is my list the shins
Victor Wooten
G. Love and the special
the Gorrilaz( it would have to be a nigh show but it would be so BA to see that live)
Moe.
The Killers
Iron and wine
The Decemberist
Clap your hands say yeah
Bright eyes

Ive begged for the B-52's. They would be so sweet in This or That.

Posted by: The Dude | January 23, 2007 9:41 AM

Does anybody know when the first official announcement of the 2007 lineup will happen. They need to hurry up and announce some big names.

Posted by: Aaron | January 23, 2007 1:27 PM

Agreed, need some confirmed bands soon or all my friends are going to Coachella, I can't have that.

Posted by: nick | January 23, 2007 1:40 PM

To Pig Tool is a Ozfest band they played the main stage in 98, they would not be welcome at Bonnaroo.

Posted by: Branham | January 23, 2007 2:24 PM

I'm not sure what a 'roo band is or isn't but what I do know is that you'll be telling your grandkids that you got to see TooL live.

Trust me. Even if their music is 'not for you' their live show is amazing. Bonnaroo or not, check'em out the next time they come around your parts. As a MUSIC fan you will not be disappointed. Listen to the song 'Lateralus' which is based on the Fibonacci Sequence - mindblowing.

Posted by: Tim | January 23, 2007 3:21 PM

I am a huge fan of music, especially most of the acts that have played Bonnaroo, and I would most certainly welcome Tool to the 'Roo with open arms. What about Primus or Buckethead. They have played at Ozzfest, and every year they(at least Les) are a part of the Bonnaroo Festivities.

Posted by: Jim | January 23, 2007 3:25 PM

My first thought on Tool possibly playing was not that their music wouldn't get along with the Bonnaroo crowd, but their CROWD wouldn't get along with the Bonnaroo crowd. It's the same thing people were worried about last year -- would inviting Radiohead kill the overall heady vibe from the festival?

Answer -- no!

However -- they really need to be mindful of their concentration of artists (and would-be followers) because I'd really hate to see a good thing go the trash(can fires).

Dave was not there evry year. My opinion is that someone from the dead has to be there.

Been every year and it is losing a bit...

I hope all these pear jam headliners rumours arent true.

And Dylan has been before and wasnt a headliner. Would his new album make him a headliner this year??

I dont think so but I have been know to be wrong...

as far as i am concerned bonnaroo was great up to 05. 06 started downhill with all this mainstream crap. i can listen to that on the radio. but don't. more jambands, more blues, more xcountry, more bluegrass, more reggae, more folk, anything but a rowdy crowd.i hope the rumors are rumors if not i will have a early bird ticket fore sale.

Posted by: wild and free | January 24, 2007 7:40 AM

As much as I'd love to see Tool, I do remember someone from Superfly saying a few years ago that a key ingredient to keeping Bonnaroo safe is not bringing in bands that play aggressive, hard music.

If anybody from the dead needs to be there it needs to be the Rythym Devils. Bobby seems like he would play but i dont know if that would happen.

Dilan would be the most uttersweet way to end some B.roo.

van halen, no way
genesis, no way

Someone from the Dead has to be there again. Even if it is phil. I know he plays the same songs all the time, but when it rain last year during box of rain, omg that was jerry man. what a way to end such a good year.

Posted by: bria | January 24, 2007 8:19 AM

Very true ... However

They did have Saul Williams and Mars Volta back to back in 2005 ... They both can be pretty aggressive at times ... They were smart making them a late night set that year though!! ... Tool could work as a late night set ... most people are worn down a little bit by then ... unfortunately, I don't think Maynard would settle for anything less than a headliner spot.

Posted by: Rick | January 26, 2007 9:06 AM

Pearl jam out going to europe during june. Roger Waters should headline for sure.

Posted by: Ricky | January 26, 2007 11:13 AM

I dunno why people have their panties in a bunch over TOOL.

Maynard and Co. put on one of the best acts of our time. I don't see anyone crying over the Mars Volta being there before, and I'd love to see them there again.

*side note: Mars Volta puts on a phenomenal show.

Stop being Bonnaroo Elitists. You talk like you know what's best for everyone at Bonnaroo and it only makes you look like a frickin idiot.

That being said, my Bonnaroo lineup would go something like...

Tool
Oysterhead
Beck (nobody's mentioned anything about his show last summer... awesome.)
Blues Traveler (not scheduled as the same time as Beck this year)
Mike Doughty
The Decemberists
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Jurassic Five
Ben Harper
Ben Folds
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Taxpayer
Damian Marley
The Streets
Daft Punk
Stevie Wonder
The Format
Mars Volta
Hot Water Music
String Cheese Incident

Phish-ish
Flaming Lips
Ted Leo
The Pixies

Posted by: DJ Wonderbred | January 26, 2007 1:05 PM

Well the initial 2007 lineup will be announced Feb. 14th,and also read on Pollstar that Pearl Jam will be in Europe in June on tour so they won't be at Bonnaroo.

Posted by: RC Corey | January 26, 2007 2:49 PM

i really, really hope it's not dylan and pearl jam. the police i could definitely go for. some of my hopes:

Is it a legit rumor about Tool?
On the issue of Tool fans not interacting very well with the typical Bonnaroo crowd-- I wouldn't put it past them to come just for Tool and leave immediately after.

Posted by: Caroline | January 26, 2007 5:34 PM

i think those comments are pretty ignorant. i am a huge fan of TOOL, but also followed phish for a while. i also enjoy journey (ha) and def leppard.

to lump all TOOL fans as people who are violent, aggressive and angry is like saying everyone who enjoys slayer is a satanist...they aren't.

TOOL has some of the most experimental, original, psychedelic stuff out there. personally i think they'd be a fantastic fit.

Posted by: beth g | January 26, 2007 6:19 PM

bob dylan
willie nelson
tom petty
phish
red hott chilli peppers
g.love
pixies
b.b.king
beck
blues travelers
police
Modest Mouse
Tenacious D
Little Feet
dmb
ziggy marley
steve miller band
stevie ray vaugn
dropkick murphy
eric clpaton

this is a wish list i rly have no clue who will be there

Posted by: joe d | January 27, 2007 8:20 AM

^^Good call on that beth. Id like to see them go out and get an older act that can still put on a good show to headline like Paul Simon, Jimmy Buffett, or Paul McCartney.

Posted by: Scott | January 27, 2007 11:42 AM

I wouldn't mind if Robert Pollard of GBV or the Silver Jews showed up... i forget if the Jews have played Bonnaroo before... i thought i saw that they had.
Police and Dylan will be awesome.

Posted by: Quadropheniac | January 27, 2007 12:57 PM

we want older acts!!!!

Posted by: joe d | January 27, 2007 3:52 PM

I'm not gonna bash tool..they might put on a good show...not headliner worthy..but a good show...

Bonnaroo is about diversity...however, i'm not sure how many tool fans will trek out to Manchester.

I'll throw my guess out there

Fri: DMB
Sat: Police
Sun: Dylan and Friends or WSP

Posted by: drbrainfreeze | January 27, 2007 6:32 PM

No PJ at the Roo...Pearl Jam will be in Europe during the Bonnarooo festival.

Posted by: Kyle | January 28, 2007 8:42 AM

these wish-lists are getting me excited!
*the official Bonnaroo initial Artist Announcement is going to be February 14.
Also, I'm definitely hoping for some
-Beck
-Bright Eyes
-Ray LaMontagne

In addition to the long lists everyone else made previously.. Is it really a definite that Dylan will headline?

Posted by: maxre | January 28, 2007 11:26 AM

Anyone here seen Gregg Allman's son Devon Allman? His band is called Devon Allman's Honeytribe and they are amazing. First album just came out, called Torch, and with the mix of blues, rock, hard rock, jazz and major guitar instrumentals they are a perfect fit. Maybe opening for the Allman Bros Band or Gregg Allman & Friends like their tour? Im dreaming.

Posted by: detroit | January 28, 2007 12:43 PM

Ok, I just talked to Mr. Bonnaroo, president of Superfly himself and he has told me that, as long as the moon is NOT in the 7th house and jupiter does NOT allign with Mars, this will be the lineup for Bonnaroo:

Widespread Panic (Friday Night)
Phish Reunion (Saturday Night)
String Cheese Incident (Sunday Night)
The Ghosts of Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, and John Bonom jam to the music of James Brown
Tea Leaf Green
Tenacious D
Pearl Jam
Smashing Pumpkins Reunion
Bob Dylan playing with the surviving members of the band
A Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, and Dave Schools Bass Supergroup Jam (w/ John Fishman on Drums)
Jesus and his 12 apostles jazz ensemble

etc...

Posted by: bryan | January 29, 2007 12:33 PM

There are alot of people who like BAD MUSIC out there..

Pearl Jam will be in Europe in June but have yet to confirm a show for that weekend.

Posted by: Matt | January 29, 2007 12:44 PM

Allman Bros and Drive-By Truckers on odd number years.

Posted by: JDub | January 29, 2007 3:21 PM

matt...people like music that appeals to them for various reasons. doesn't make it bad, just makes you close-minded ;-)

pearl jam won't be playing... they're in europe during the dates

Posted by: colcol | January 30, 2007 1:58 PM

a little dream birdie told me this would be the line-up:
Radiohead
Daft Punk
Rage Against the Machine
Smashing Pumpkins

Gorillaz
The Arcade Fire
Hot Chip

I've been reading discussions like this all over the net. The one thing that struck me as very peculiar was the loyal bonnarooheads that were worried about SAFETY by allowing the tool crowd into the festival. They also don't want to bring "violent" music to roo. I seriously object.

I've been to bonnaroo a number of times now. I love the festival. I also love Tool. The initial freakout you wonderful love minded hippies are having is based on your prejudice of what you think tool is, exemplified by two misconceptions:
A: Tool fans are violent.
B: Tool's music/message is somehow itself violent.
C: Yes, I know i said two, but i'm unpredictable. That's just how I roll: Tool fans aren't already at bonnaroo.

So, first of all, I have to conclude, these rooheads have never been to a tool show. Yes it's high energy, but tool fans are proably the most gentile beings on the planet. They rock out, but they would never threaten somebody's safety. I went around the country following Tool last year. A boatload of shows, and I never once saw any kind of fight, or confrontation. Not once! Which is more than I can say for last year's bonnaroo already. There were some shady @$$ white trash losers that made me feel plenty threatened already at roo, without tool being there.
But tool shows were always great. The crowds were so nice. There was a lot of hugging in the tool fanbase. You should have seen during the song Aenima how many people were holding up their hands to the sky, and litterally crying out the line "I'm parying for rain."

Secondly, tool's message and music is not violent. It's aggressive. It's powerful. But if you really listen to the lyrics, it's message is all about confronting violence as something we all have inside us to fight against. It advocates peace by pointing out the incongruities and inadequacies of the violence, not promoting it.

Finally, I've met so many toolheads at bonnaroo last year, it was way more than I was expecting. It was ridiculous. (We can spot eachother from a mile away, it's the twinkle in our eye) This is easy to understand. Anybody who is into the psych culture will eventually meet somebody who's into tool, and will get turned on. If Trey Anastasio says they're the trippiest band out there, I don't think you need me to convince you any further. The bonnaroo crowd is naturally turning towards Tool through their activities outside of the festival, because they're starting to figure out for themselves that tool really are the trippiest band out there. No joke! And that I think is great!

I don't think tool will actually play the festival. I know Trey said he would love to see them there, and that's what's causing all this crazy talk, so this is all for nothing. But I'm just insulted by some of these rooheads thinking that tool fans will somehow ruin bonnaroo for them! That's just ignorant.

Though, I can see how these hippies running around the feild in a state of "vulnerable openmindedness" might not be able to handle their Third Eye being pryed open, so maybe it's best Tool don't come to the festival, or we'll have to be taking care of these flower children freaking out for the entire night.

Peace,
:)

Posted by: thepatient | January 30, 2007 11:47 PM

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but if you look on Pearl Jam's website, they're scheduled to play a show in Italy on 6/15, Austria on 6/16, and London on 6/18. So unless they're doing some pretty crazy unnecessary traveling...they won't be playing Bonnaroo.

Posted by: Luke | January 31, 2007 9:15 AM

tool are the most overrated band since led zeppelin. they use the same crude drop d power chord riffs in every song, they throw in a few big words, and add alot of droning guitar parts. they do have a good drummer. they even make a mockery of their fans and yet, these people just dont get it. they cant see it because theyre ignorant and have the veil of being "openminded" drawn over themselves. tool fans are tools themselves.

Posted by: sabre huff | January 31, 2007 9:34 AM

"tool are the most overrated band since led zeppelin"

HAHA!!! Yea! Tool suck, Led Zepplin suck, and don't even get me started on King Crimson! :)

LMFAO!

Posted by: flower power | January 31, 2007 11:09 AM

I dont know why no one is talking about My Morning Jacket any more than they are. If you have seen or heard them the past few years, they are one of the acts to see in bonnaroo. from their 3 hour set last year covering stuff from the misfits to the who, it was the set of bonaroo.

Posted by: Jeremy | January 31, 2007 12:10 PM

In regards to Tool and violence. Tool fans are a bunch of just that. But honestly look at the 2 Fakestocks MTV put on, Ignorant bands = ignorant environments. Why even take the risk of having a spark plug. But to defend tool i think they'd know their roll look Cypress Hill put on a great show and their lyrics don't exactley inspire peace.. I was at Beck! By the way Pearl Jam's site is saying they are touring so i agree stop with all your sources and just say thats who you'd like to be at the Roo. Peace

Rooer's unite Woodstock 08' right before the ELECTION!!!

Posted by: Ryan Irish | January 31, 2007 1:33 PM

I am hearing Springsteen and E Street Band.
Mark Collie is in.

Posted by: ragus | January 31, 2007 10:24 PM

This discussion about Tool is stupid. No hard core metal head is going to pay $250 to go see Tool in the middle of a dirty field in the dead of the Tennessee summer when they are doing a major US tour. If all you want to do is thrash around you can go see them for 1/4 of the cost anywhere in the country, and there's air conditioning. This thread if for line-up rumors not stupid rants about individual bands.

Posted by: annoyed | February 1, 2007 11:24 AM

I went to bonnaroo last year, i love the jam scene but i also have an open mind and would love to see tool at the roo. I think bonnaroo can diversify while still holding true to its jam roots. Just like cochella is at heart an indie festival but also have some heavier and really mellow names on the bill.

Posted by: Patrick Kelly | February 1, 2007 11:36 AM

i heard santa claus is gonna be there too with all his elves, and this is totally just a rumor but i heard the 8 reindeer are getting back together just for bonnaroo this year, that would be effing amazin, an to make it even better the red sox win the world series again, that would complete the year for me

Posted by: jj | February 1, 2007 5:21 PM

I can't believe with all these bonheads noone has mentioned the funk scene ariving to bonnaroo.

I also think that Dr. John and Dumphunkstank was the best lineup out of the entire weekend. And lets's not forget Lyrics Born, Common, and Blackalicous.

I would love to see Ivan Neville's band again alnong with:

X-ecutioners
RJD2
Allman Brothers
A Marley (Damien Rocked)
B.B. King
Ben Folds
The Roots
Guerillaz
Flaming Lips
Tom Waits
Umphrey's Mcgee (K-ZOO!)
Amos Lee
Mike Doughty
Wood Brothers
Dr. John
Les in any form
The Police (Headlining)
Phil Lesh (Head Lining)
Gangstarr
DJ Cut Chemist
Steve Earl
Joss Stone
My Morning Jacket

That wish list could go on forever..but you can hope that 10% of it comes true.

Peace see ya all there!

To "annoyed": - that rumor about Tool was kind of started by Trey himself, and printed in Rolling Stone so, what's stupid again? I'm sorry, did you say the discussion of Tool being a possibility is "stupid"? If you don't like the thread, don't take part in it.

Posted by: Zombie | February 2, 2007 10:51 AM

Pearl Jam will be on their European tour throughout the month of June.

Posted by: Louis | February 2, 2007 11:01 AM

tool is one of my favorite bands of all time. however, they will probably not be playing at bonnaroo. unfortunately, a small portion of their fans like to engage in moshing when they have the opportunity; bonnaroo does not want any bands that would have moshing fans.

it is nothing to do with the merits of tool's music.

can we just stop talking about tool now?

Posted by: mark | February 2, 2007 2:16 PM

i'd also be very skeptical of the police playign at bonnaroo

i can't imagine bonnaroo having a band that is reuniting to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their first single; bonnaroo typically stays away from something like that

Posted by: mark | February 2, 2007 2:18 PM

Why wouldn't the Police play? Stewart Copeland played last year with Oysterhead, a band that hadn't played a show together since 2001. That is EXACTLY what Roo is about, facilitating amazing collaborations between artists who may not otherwise have come together.

Posted by: bria | February 2, 2007 2:36 PM

Wow...I'm getting hyped!
TOOL, The Roots, Wood Bros, Daft Punk, The Gorillaz...A dream made in heaven!
How bout' some Thievery Corporation, Groundation, Gnarles Barkley and
John Brown's Body?
I think the Roo would do themselves well to mix it up a little more.
Open up people!!!

Posted by: Soulrebel | February 2, 2007 2:43 PM

anyone who says Tool as a possibility at Roo is a big ole tool themselves. They are a great band but come on, you are kidding yourselves thinking this. You must not have either seen Tool live before and/or ever even been to Bonnaroo before, otherwise you would know how crazy that sounds. I realize Bonnaroo is pretty diverse but jeez, its not that much! and mark who doesn't think Bonnaroo would book the Police is delusional too. They booked Tom Petty last year, and all that was a greatest hits/fundraising tour much like the Police reunion will be. The only real question is what night will the Police play (I'm guessing Saturday) cause Sunday's gotta be reserved for Phil!

Posted by: stephen | February 2, 2007 6:04 PM

I cant believe no one has thrown out PRIMUS. I love claypool and have seen fancy band multiple times as well as oysterhead last year. But lets not forget how sweet of a show PRIMUS put on in 04, and plus they are about 100% more likely to show up then TOOL.

Also I read Pearl Jam will be touring overseas when bonnaroo will be taking place. So no Pearl Jam sorry guys.

Posted by: Fats | February 2, 2007 9:36 PM

after seeing radiohead at bonnaroo last year, and watching the hipsters at pitchfork eat crow for calling bonnaroo a dirty hippy-fest each previous year of its existence, i'm ready for anything. thom yorke, somewhere in the middle of radiohead's 20-something song set, said, and I paraphrase, "golly gee, it's 'bout fuckin' time you yanks learned how to throw a fuckin' festival."

and if the debate is already simmering enough here, on a live music blog, about the pros and cons of Tool, that in and of itself ought to be a good enough reason to invite them. gee whiz, guys, its not like they're Limp Bizkit or something.

that said, i'd really love to see:
pixies
arcade fire
willie nelson
ween
some of those guys from burlington, vermont

regardless, i'll be there.

Posted by: brrmont | February 3, 2007 12:33 AM

Bonnaroo would be smart to continue in last years direction. I love bonnaroo but it could really do without all these shallow, music snobs who want to pigeon hole what has become a great festival and turn it into some kind of jam band wax museum. It should reflect the times not the wet dreams of a minority who feel their nostalgia entitles them to define what music is. Get over yourselves. That being said here's one guys wishlist...

rage
daft punk
the police
the fugees
pearl jam
dylan
muse
the bravery
tiesto
taj mahal
toots
mos def & talib kweli
nickel creek
keller williams
manu chao feat amadou & mariam
Ferry Corsten
clap your hands
the killers
beastie boys
coheed and cambria

Posted by: Zombie | February 3, 2007 2:47 PM

wow ken your retarded arent you?

Posted by: scott | February 3, 2007 4:14 PM

no metal bands at roo just chilled out music thats wat the festival is all about its not about screaming and yellin its about grooving and getting a ton of "hippies" together

Posted by: joe d | February 3, 2007 7:31 PM

I'd really like to see bobby play roo this year again. Also, has any one ever heard of chik chik chik? They'd be great at bonnaroo. I'll stop going when vanilla ice headlines.

Posted by: jstraw | February 4, 2007 3:05 AM

I think that the Chicago jam band "Mr. Blotto" would be a great fit for Bonnaroo this year. These guys are seasoned vets of the scene and put on fantastic live shows. I could do without Pearl Jam and Dylan personally. Would love to see Bobby or Widespread back on the main stage.

Posted by: dick willie | February 5, 2007 1:46 PM

my dream set list would be

Widespread Panic(headline)
The Police(Headline)
Flaming Lips(Headline) Or Allman Brothers

Bob Dylan
J.J. Cale
Willie Nelson
Oysterhead(kicked ass last year)
moe.
Tea Leaf Green
Jurrassic 5
Mars Volta
Ben Harper
Ziggy Marley(must be there)
Slightly Stoopid
Built To Spill
Gomez
Robert Randolph
The Beautiful Girls
Tv On The Radio
The Decemberists
Galactic
Beck(good show last year)
Hot Buttered Rum String Band
Disco Biscuits(Must)

and Bone Thugs N Harmony would be cool

Posted by: Drags | February 5, 2007 9:42 PM

stephen, tom petty was not on a greatest hits/fundraising tour; he was supporting his new studio album, which got limited play on classic rock radio

I like muse the band is really talented and the lead singer is really out there, he writes some trippy lyrics

Posted by: drags | February 6, 2007 11:07 PM

Here's my guess for headliners:
Dylan
Springsteen
The Police
Sounds pretty strong on paper.

ok i went to the first roo back 02 before it got really lame and dave showed up every year. last year i was tempted but went to the two night bisco run at the stone pony insted. i would like to go back but if the line up isnt up to snuff im just not driving to TN. if TOOL shows you can count me out. their so lame listening to tool is like jerking off with sand paper and acting like you enjoy it cause your friends think its cool. what ever happened to 2 night of WSP and cheese ? tom pettey dave matthews, jack johnson and ben harper if i wanted to get bro raped i would just go to a high school party no thanks. CAMP BISCO FOR LIFE KIDS

yeah i hit bonnaroo last year but this year im headed out to 10klf instead but hey go look at micheal franti and spearheads myspace page and under upcoming events it has a link to the bonnaroo 2007 page that would be cool for the bonnaroo goers who were there in the jam band days of the festival

Posted by: dylan | February 7, 2007 4:27 PM

Sorry your a little girl that shops at hot topic bria. Can i borrow your my chemical romance cd? And for tool blows 420. Are you really calling tool lame and your praising bisco. That has to be a joke. Go do some more x and hit on passed out girls. that being said i would to see ween and steve miller band there.

Posted by: scott | February 7, 2007 5:23 PM

Tool would be absolutely amazing at the roo.

I really don't think it would ever happen though. They'd definitely show the typical Bonnaroo a new side of music. Same for the Mars Volta, who would also be amazing.

I'd like to see Explosions in the Sky too.

also who I'd want:
The Allman Brothers
The Flaming Lips
Muse
Oysterhead
Blackfield/Porcupine Tree

How about that Zeppelin reunion that keeps getting rumoured about?

Posted by: Chandler | February 8, 2007 1:43 AM

Sorry Scott but I'm definitely NOT a little girl who shops at hot topic. I'm just mature enough to realize the world is not made up of ONE kind of music. I listen to "jam band music" but I also listen to MANY other types of music. Bonnaroo is all about diversity. It sucks to think there are close minded people like you wandering around in this world.

Posted by: bria | February 8, 2007 8:11 AM

No Pearl Jam, they will be in Europe doing UK festies the weekend of Bonnaroo.

Posted by: Dave | February 8, 2007 9:30 AM

Coheed and Camnbria are terrible. The lead singer looks like a disgruntled poodle, and their music sucks.

Posted by: EdTeach | February 8, 2007 9:39 AM

Possible Headliners
Bob Dylan

Guns N Roses (Buckethead on guitar)
Paul McCartney

others
Oysterhead (perfect w/ Phish or Police)
!!!
Buckethead (perfect for GNR and played festivals last year)
Air
The Flaming Lips
Ween
Mars Volta
The Good, the Bad, and the Queen or Gorillaz
Ghostface Killah

Anyone catch Toubab Krewe on Thursday night last year. Never heard of them before…went with my best friend, an open mind, and a full beer. What a show! I am a fan now. Now that’s why I go to Bonnaroo—always a pleasant surprise in the next tent!

For what it’s worth, Bonnaroo is a few days away from work with my buddy. Were getting older, our families and jobs keep us perpetually busy, and we hardly see each other anymore. What’s better than a few days in the hot Tennessee sun, sipping some cold brew with your old friend, and coincidentally catching some great tunes? Yeah, we miss the Dead. We did that for years. Those were great days, but we can’t recreate that kind of magic. But there’s new magic every year, if you can enjoy the moment.

Man I love reading everyone’s predictions—I’m getting anxious just reading your posts. Sounds
