Trey and Mike to Join Benevento Russo Duo
Some extremely interesting post-Phish rumors floating around right now…
Mike and Trey will be recording with The Duo, all four of whom will go on the road together. It is not known for certain at this point whether they will perform as a foursome, or in some other manner, perhaps GRaB and Trey alternating performance slots, with various sit-ins occuring during the shows. It is also not known at this point whether the shows, should they happen, would prevent Mike and Trey from performing acoustically together as well.
This is entirely exciting to me and something I hope is true. I’m a huge fan of The Duo right now (more on that later) and I can see Mike and Trey adding some serious power to their sound.

The Duo with Gordo and Trey are both playing 10,000 Lakes, very possible all four play together there and follow it up with a tour in August…hopefully with dates throughout the midwest.
expect to see trey and mike at radio city for the big apple music festival, i forget if the duo is on the bill also
moe. will also be doing an acoustic show for the festival and opening for dave matthews
I don’t think this is true. And IMO would prefer to see Trey play with some other musicians. To me the Duo has always been MMW lite. But I would still be at quite a few of these shows.
I never found an entirely comfortable place within MMW and yet I enjoy the Duo thoroughly…
Here’s the thing, though…
I’d love this if it were a band. Like, The Duo has as much say as Trey.
If Trey shows up and is like, “let’s do ‘Secret Smile,’” I’d never let them hear the end of it…
I think my biggest concern is that they won’t practice very much and they will fall back on playing dou and phish songs. Which isn’t the worste thing but lets all be realistic if we are going to hear Phish songs with a four peice band it should be Phish. Again this is just my opinion.
maybe we will get a little taste in atlanta… the duo has no dates that coincide with treys 2 nights at the tabernacle…
I just want to say I don’t like the comparing of MMW and the Duo, I think they are completely different. And both kick my ass equally in their own way. I think it’s interesting to think about what Trey will add to the band, to see how much success will come to the band in comparison to 70 VP, or Phish, how this will change the Duo’s style, and how long it will last.

I was really excited when this quartet rumor started a month ago, but now I think it’s not happening alas :/
I still think it’s decently credible, although PT has gotten a little lax with their Phish-related rumors…
Who am I to judge, though? At least someone is putting that out there…
Just wanted to point to this from “all the gossip fit to print” site, Gawker:
We stopped by Great Lakes in Park Slope yesterday for a quick happy hour beer. The place was dead, except for Trey Anastasio from Phish and a couple of friends (bandmates?). Phish ain’t exactly my scene, so I checked with the bartender after the band left—they told her they were a band from Vermont. Sounds like a confirmation.
I know that I’m just adding fuel to this burning rumor, but I believe Joe Russo lives in Park Slope. But don’t quote me on that. (Or, if you DO quote me, refer to me as “George Clooney.”)
