Will the Real Green Apple Music Festival Please Stand Up?
Please stand up, please stand up…
As a blogger, I’m entirely confuzzled on what the hell I should be posting regarding the Green Apple Music Festival.
On the one hand, it has not been announced yet.
On the other hand, Slack LaLane has the preliminary flier that clearly lists the lineup as follows: Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Assembly of Dust, Bela Fleck, Bill Frisell, Blues Traveler, Dan Bern, Deep Banana Blackout, Dweezil Zappa, Everyone Orchestra, Fab Faux, Kaki King, Little Feat, Max Creek, McCoy Tyner, NY Philharmonic, Particle, Perpetual Groove, Peter Frampton, Richie Havens, Savion Glover, Secret Machines, Slick Rick, Soulive, Steve Kimock, Tea Leaf Green, The Slip, Toots and the Maytals, Toubab Krewe, Umphrey’s McGee and Zen Tricksters.
Plus, some of the bands’ publicity companies are already sending this info out as part of their normal “this band has these tour dates, blah blah blah…” releases that are blindly hitting the newswires without full mention that these are confirmations for a festival that has been announced and yet it hasn’t.
If you consider the mecca of all show confirmations to be the JamBase show database (which, at times, I do indeed consider it the mecca), check this search of New York City during the festival dates, April 20-23, 2006.
So, whether or not it’s been officially confirmed, you can definitely start making your plans from the JamBase calendar. I promise I’ll update this with the final Green Apple Music Festival lineup once we actually have it. Hopefully, this is only a minor hiccup that shouldn’t follow along with the actual festival logistics.

I was wondering if Yonder is going to be at this concert. I’m looking to foward to see them in concert this year again and have heard quite a bit about this festival. It would be great to see them there.

Im confused too, I wish this was a real festival, i mean to say: one ticket for all shows! but I guess thats just wishful thinking. Its more of a conglomerate of concerts really… gonna put a hole in ye old walleta

I don’t quite understand what’s going on with this thing. I feel like it’s been the most under publicized music fest going. While some bands have basically announced they are playing shows for this, no one has come out with at least a tentative list of bands. This has debacle written all over it, but that’s not to say I won’t try and check out some of the shows.

Let’s just put it this way: If Pereptual Groove AND Particle are both playing on the same weekend in the same town (even if that town IS the biggest city in the country), that can only mean that, my friends, I smell a music festival. I’m just waiting on the requisite Keller Williams/Spearhead announcements to cement it. You guys think it’ll be something like South by Southwest or CMJ where you buy a badge for a flat fee and get into any shows (with the option to buy shows “a la carte”)? That would make the most sense. But then again, this is New York. Do other people in the country think it “makes sense” to pay $300Gs for a 250 square foot apartment?

I agree, and yet I’m totally confused as to how all these lineups are getting leaked. Worse yet, they’re pulled and then publicity companies start sending the info back out…
I think I’m just a little bitter that I’m not going. =[

My buddy at Relix said the lineup was posted on the site prematurely (like the Jammys was too), and that it’ll be released in full some time this week.
And to be careful, I only picked out some highlights, there were plenty other acts on the flier that I didn’t excerpt in that post.
It’s on, and it’ll be *on* come mid-April.
