Bonnaroo 2006 Announced!

Update (2/1/06): Bonnaroo 2006 Lineup Announced!

Bonnaroo Music Festival
June 16-18, 2006
Manchester, TN

The 5th Annual Bonnaroo Music Festival will be held during the June 16-18 weekend at the same location in muggy Central Tennessee. They’re scaling back the number of tickets to 80,000, the same amount as the 2003 festival. You know there’ll be a solid lineup and I can’t wait to see what big ticket bands they’re going to get.

I’m already making predictions on the secret, unannounced guests that tend to cause the most attention at past Roo’s. Stay tuned to Live Music Blog and bonnaroo.com for the up-to-date info on the festival.

Update (1/11/06): Some lineup rumors can be found here and here.

  1. It’s funny, everyone was saying how the lineup last year was the ‘worst’ it’s been, yet I had the best time in ‘05 when comparing to other years so go figure… As always, I guess it’s what you make of it.

Can’t wait till ‘06 - it’s going to be off the charts - some are saying it will be the last year -any news on that, Justin?

  2. I highly doubt that actually. Think of how successful this festival has been (other than the occasional drug overdoses), and think about how successful Vegoose was–there’s no way they wouldn’t continue on with a good thing.

That’s just my opinion, but I have to say that it’s definitely not going to be the last year…

  3. Rumor has it around this small town that this will be the last year. The locals are saying that the lease is about to expire.

  4. Well, we can’t assume that Bonnaroo would shut down, though. Maybe they would just have to move locations but they would try and keep it in the same vicinity?

    Time will tell…

  5. as a Tennessee resident and a 3 year bonnarooer i look foward to 2006. I disagree i thought the 05 lineup wasnt bad at all headliners sucked but nothing will beat 03. the rumor in the TN is that manchester doesnt like the festival and that this will be the last one. i sure hope not. peace and love all

  6. I am also a fellow Tennessean and work with people from Manchester. I heard the same that the lease is up;however, I think they will work something out. As far as the people of Manchester not liking Bonnaroo, I think the perception has changed due to the kindness and gratitude of the festival goers toward the locals. Plus, Superfly has gone out of its way to cater to not only the town but the locals. Most of the people that I work with from there, were given free passes last year and loved it. We must carry on this Bonnaroo tradition..it is way too good to stop. Can’t wait to ‘06.

  7. Yeah, I’m thinking I want to make the trek down there, actually. We did it in 2004 and nearly vowed to never do it again.

However, I think we’ve learned some valuable lessons and I think we could get through it this year…

  8. I hear Bela Fleck & The Flecktones might be there in 2006.

  10. I hear Nickel Creek is confimred to play and there’s some talk about Radiohead and Tom Petty.

    Guess we’ll see soon enough!?

  11. I thought that they bought the land that bonnaroo is held on. If that were the case then you have nothing to worry about.

  12. radiohead sucks…stupid whinny college rock

  13. I personally think their voyage into electronica was pretty cool, even though their core thought that it was too far of a departure from the stupid whiny college rock that you so eloquently describe…

  15. When do tickets usually go on sale?

    Posted by Mike | January 13, 2006, 2:58 pm
  16. Well, in years past, the on-sale date is the weekend immediately following the announcement.

Judging from the amount of chatter we’re engaging in (here and elsewhere), I bet we can expect an announcement next week. That’s just my guess, though…

  17. This will be my first year going. How fast do tickets sell out?

    Posted by Mike | January 17, 2006, 3:49 pm
  18. Mike: I wouldn’t waste more than a week or two deciding, and if you know you’re going, get tickets immediately if they offer early-bird.

Worth every penny of planning ahead…

  19. Ive never seen radiohead but they sound whinny and boring on all there recordings. What are the odds of RHCP playing? Now they are a real headliner. Petty is sweet too.

  20. The initial artist announcement will be Wednesday, February 1st. This announcement will include an initial lineup of artists, as well as ticket on-sale information.

  21. To those of you that think that Radio head sucks: You are out of your minds! they are one of THE most creative bands since the Beatles. I also heard that Beck is supposed to headline. As well as Trey Band. Any word on that? Radiohead and Beck are two of the bands that I most want to see right now so if that’s true I’ll be ecstatic. Also wondering if The Mars Volta will be back. Any word on them? If these four bands are in the line up, I’m there! Please Lemme know if you hear anything. thanks

  25. Just in case some of you don’t know, Lyrics Born and Blackalicious have said on their websites that they are playing Roo. A round 4 sounds like it is right around the corner.
