Happy Monday, dudes. I'm knee-deep in some serious ad campaign optimization ("but the CTR in that channel is soooo much better than that channel, yo!") but I've got time to drop a quick update post on a bunch of random stuff that's hit our inbox lately. Damn it's a nice day out...
Undoubtedly, the biggest live music item of the day is the most-notable announcements coming out of the Smashing Pumpkins camp -- they've announced an eight-night residency in San Francisco and a nine-night (!!) residency in Asheville, NC. Okay, then.
Here's some other stuff to make note of.
- Michael Franti is playing at San Quentin on May 19. "Outspoken Anti- recording artist and award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Franti will perform an extremely rare San Quentin Prison concert on Saturday, May 19th at 11 a.m. With a theme of tolerance and co-existence, the first gig inside the prison in five years – since Metallica’s 2002 appearance – will be held before roughly 2,000 inmates." Wild.
- Explosions in the Sky just completely canceled all of their international dates this summer, citing a serious illness in the family as the reason. Bummer. They plan on making them up, though.
- The Boggs are out on tour and they're coming to Chicago soon. Anyone into these guys?
- Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood are going to be playing at the Chicago Jazz Festival. This would be a good show; I might have to mark the calendar on that one (it's not until September). Herbie Hancock is also playing.
- Sly Stone (and some of The Family Stone) is coming out of hiding.
- The Hunter Village Inn (potential hotel for people heading to Mountain Jam 2007) has burned down. Bummer, indeed.
- 'The Vegan' has the scoop on some other bands tentatively booked for the summer schedule at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn.
- The Polyphonic Spree just announced a large summer tour.
